Assignment Friction.

The document analyzes 5 cases with varying friction, ramp angle, wall material, and applied force to determine the motion of an object. It then draws a conclusion that the maximum static friction force that can be applied is 490N based on the mass, and more than this force is needed to overcome static friction and cause motion.

NAME: Anjali Kolhatkar

Reg.no: 21BCE11171
Observations and Conclusion:
CASE: 01

1. Friction is zero
2. Ramp angle zero
3. Walls to be of brick.
4. Force applied 100N

Then the man will only stop if he hits the wall.

CASE: 02

1. Friction is of wood
2. Ramp angle 0
3. Walls to be of brick.
4. Force will be of

Then the the man will move towards right.

CASE: 03

1. Friction is zero
2. Ramp angle 30 degrees
3. Walls to be of brick.
4. Force will be of 300N

Then the the man will move towards right and will move up the ramp easily.
CASE: 04

1. Friction is of wood
2. Ramp angle 30.
3. Walls to be of brick.
4. Force will be of 300N

Then the the man will not be able to move.

CASE: 05

1. Friction is of wood
2. Ramp angle 30.
3. Walls to be of brick.
4. Force will be 500N

Then the the man will be able to move upwards but will never touch the wall of the ramp.
CONCLUSION:

Mass of body= 100kg

Static friction= 0.5 X 100 X 9.8 = 490 N

At max friction force that can be applied = 490 N. So we need more than 490N to move the cart as
we see in case 05 we applied 500 N and it starts to move but in case 4 it didn’t move.

And for ice surface there will be no friction so the man will always be able to move the box.
