Group 1 - Lab #2 Animal Cytology

This document summarizes a laboratory exercise on animal cytology. The objectives are to differentiate between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, describe their structures and functions, and explain cellular transport, reproduction and cell division. The lab involves using online resources to identify structures of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including labeling diagrams. It also includes using a virtual microscope to observe and draw animal cells at different stages of cell division.

III. Guide Questions:

1. What are cells? (1 point)

- Cells are the basic unit of life. It is the simplest collection of matter that can live.

2. What are the main functions of cells? (5 points)

- All organisms are made up of cells. It supports the body’s structure, absorbs nutrients
from meals and transforms them into energy which is necessary for us to live and
function, and it also performs specialized functions.

3. Complete the following sentences about the two main types of cells: prokaryotic and
eukaryotic cells. (4 points)
1. Prokaryotic cells include bacteria and archaea.
2. Eukaryotic cells are found in animals, plants, fungi, and protists.

c. Prokaryotes are made up of a single cell, whereas eukaryotes are made up of one
or two cells.

Lab 1: Prokaryotic Cell Structure and Functions

1. Match the numbered labels in the image below to the list included here:

○ Explore the 3D model of the bacterial cell in your browser to find the
structures you need to label.

○ Fill in the blanks to label the structures from the list below. (9points)
