3 Superpositiontheorem

This document describes an experiment to verify the superposition theorem using a circuit with two voltage sources and three resistors. The superposition theorem states that the total current in a circuit with multiple sources is equal to the sum of the currents produced by each individual source. The procedure involves measuring the current with each source applied individually and with both sources applied simultaneously, and using model calculations to show the total current equals the sum of the individual currents.

SUPERPOSITION THEOREM

AIM: To verify Superposition theorem.

APPARATUS:

1 MC (0-120)V 2
2 MC (0-3)A 1
3 WW R1 100Ω 1
R2 55Ω 1
R3 100Ω 1

THEORY:
The Superposition theorem states that the response in any element of a linear
bilateral network containing two or more sources is the algebraic sum of the
responses obtained by each source acting alone and with all the other sources
replaced with their internal resistances.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:

PROCEDURE:-

1. Connections are made as per the circuit diagram.

2. Supply is taken by closing both the switches SW1 and SW2. Keeping SW3 and
SW4 open. Note the ammeter reading in tabular form/
3. Now by closing switches SW1& SW4 and keeping SW2 &SW3 open, note the
ammeter reading.
4. Close switches SW2 & SW3 and keep SW1 & SW4 open, note the ammeter
reading.
5. From the observations obtained, Superposition theorem is verified using model
calculations.
OBERVATIONS:-
S.No Test Condition Current
1. Switch SW1 & SW2 closed I=
SW3&SW4 open
2. Switch SW1 & SW4 closed I1=
SW2&SW3 open
3. Switch SW2 & SW3 closed I2=
SW1&SW4 open

MODEL CALCULATIONS:
I = …..Amps I1=………Amps
I2=……Amps I1 + I2 =……..Amps
PRECAUTIONS:
1. All connections must be connected without any discontinuity.
2. Power should be switched off before making or breaking connections.
