Imperatives
Short form Typically, imperative sentences are short and simple. Some of the
simplest sentences in the English language are actually imperative
sentences consisting of a single verb.
- Stop!
- Go!
- Hurry!
Long form There are several long, compound and complex sentences.
(Don’t) + V(infinitive) + O
Modal verbs
Modal verbs help English speakers to express probability, ability, obligation, advice,
permission, and habits.

Lesson 1
Objective: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer about how to
Step 1: Remove the blank bushing plates, using care not to damage the
gasket
2 Step 2: Locate the lead connector for the wire (at least 12 inches longer
than the bushing). Insert the wire up through the bushing
Step 3: Install and tighten the gasket and the top cap assembly
Work in pairs. Ask and answer with your partner these following questions for each device:
1. How many steps are there?
2. What tools do we need?
3. Where can this device be installed (office, bathroom, bedroom, lab,…)?
4. What is the function of + name of tool?

Activity 2: Listening
Work individually. You are going to watch a video showing how to install an electric device.
Item (CHOOSE A, B OR C)
A. A light bulb
B. An air conditioner
C. A circuit board
o 1 seal o A pencil
A. In a house
B. In a factory
C. In an office

Pre-installation
Check the air conditioner (instruction is for 5K, 6K, and 10K BTU units)
Check the compatibility of the tools size with the air conditioner
A. insert the guide panels into the guides of the air conditioner
B. cut the seal to the window width and stuff the sash between the glass and the
window
E. measure and mark the centerline of the inner sole and another line eight
inches above and below.
F. fasten the curtains to the unit with four type-a screws on each side
Post-installation
Student A: You are a new technician who wants to ask the instructor (Student B) how to
install an air conditioner. You should ask about the following information:

E. Installation
1.
Trying to wire a light in your home can be intimidating. After all, wiring involves
electricity, and electricity can be dangerous. However, by taking basic precautions
and understanding the basic working of a circuit and the wires involved, you can have
new fixtures wired and installed in your home in no time!
To do this, you need to prepare a new bulb, a screwdriver, some screws, some
wires and a voltage tester.
2.
To successfully set up a new light bulb, you need to cut power to your circuit. Switch
the breaker of your fuse-box so the fuse for the circuit supplying electricity to your
fixture reads “Off.” Next, clean the old fixture and the installation area. If the light you
are wiring is in the ceiling, you should clean any cobwebs and dust before attempting
to install your new fixture. The same is true for lights or switches in walls; a clean
work area will improve your ease of installation. And don’t forget to remove the old
fixture covering.
3.
To begin the installation, check for compatibility. In most cases, the mounting
hardware for your new fixture will fit the bracket that’s already installed. You’ll need to
hold the new light fixture up to the existing mounting bracket and compare fasteners and
size to make sure you don’t need to install a new mounting bracket. After that, you
connect the same colored wires. Twist the exposed ends of the wire together, and seal
it by screwing on a wiring cap. Finally, fasten your fixture in the mounting bracket with
appropriate screws using a screwdriver. During the operation, you should test the new
light to guarantee its quality by investigating how it works; or you can test the electric
current in case finding any trouble to the light.

4.
First, test the electric current by using a voltage tester. Sometimes, over the course of
installation, a wire might be jostled or damaged in such a way as to compromise its
ability to transmit electricity to your new light. Second, create space to work.
Remember to give yourself more wires. If you are working with older wire, or if the
stripped part of the wire is difficult to work with, after you have cut power to the circuit
you are working on, you can strip more wire for greater ease of handling.
Complete the table. Write NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS for each answer.
A screwdriver
Some screws
Some wires
A voltage tester
