inductive reasoning

(logical reasoning) process of developing generalizations from specific observations

deductive reasoning

process of developing specific predictions from general principles

paradigm

world view, a general perspective on the complexities of the world. (what is the nature of the reality?,
what is the relationship b/t the inquirer and those being studied?

positivism

(logical) reflects a broader cultural phenomenon, which emphasizes the rational and scientific; there is a

constructivist paradigm (naturalistic)

emphasizes the value of deconstruction and reconstruction. reality is not a fixed entity but rather is a
construction of the individuals participating in the research; multiple and subjective

positivist assumption
inquirier is dependent of those being studied

naturalistic assumption
