ASSINGMENT 1 : MALAYSIA SHIPYARDS SURVEY
 
1. Based on AMIM website and other sources, list all shipbuilding and ship repair companies in
Malaysia (Individually)
 
2. Form a group of not more than three students. Elect a group leader among the group members.
 
3. Based on the shipyards listed in Table 1 below, each group will be assigned to one shipyard. Collect as much
information as possible about the shipyard and prepare a short report to highlight your findings. The information
to be collected will be discussed in class.
 
The report to be submitted four weeks after mid term break. You may also asked to do presentation in class on
the shipyard’s information.
 
The information to be collected should at least covers the following aspects;
 
A : Shipyard Profile (Name, Address/location, WebSite, Photo/Pictures, Contact Number, Year Extablished, Main
Bussiness, shipyard class, etc)
B : Shipyard Capability and Track Record (Type and size of ship/boat/marine structures built or repaired, total
number of ship built/repaired or average number of ships built/repaired per year, average selling price of ship,
customers/clients/ship owners)
C : Shipyard Facilities & Technology (Main faiclities such as number and size of building berths/slipways,
workshops, main machineries, cranes and material handling facilities, computer facilities, CNC machines, shipyard
layout/areal photo etc)
D : Man Power (Total number of workers, percentage of distribution for management and administration,
technical executive, production workers, contract workers, salaries etc)
E : Others (anything related)
