following criteria.

a. More than or equal to 90 marks award “A”

b. More than or equal to75 marks but less than 90 marks award “B”

c. More than or equal to 50 marks but less than 75 award “C”

e. Less than 35 award “F”

Use spreadsheets to solve the problem.

2. IMI Kolkata is organizing a conclave. The fixed costs amount to Rs 50,000. IMI has

decided to charge each participant Rs 4,000. IMI will provide lunch to each of the

participants for which it will incur a cost of Rs 500 per participant.

a.) How many participants need to attend the conclave for IMI to break even?

b.) Suppose that 50 candidates have confirmed participation and IMI management has

taken a decision to generate a surplus of Rs 1,00,000 from the event. The fixed

cost for IMI is the same and the participation fee is also the same. What should be

the maximum price per plate for lunch that IMI can pay?

3. A company gives different discount rates to customers based on the order size as

given in the table below.

Order Size Discount

1-5 2%
6-10 5%
11-20 7%
More than 20 10%

a. What is the amount that the customer has to pay?

b. Suppose that for making an advance payment the discounts are 3%, 7%, 12% and

15% respectively. What is the amount the customer would pay?

The user inputs are a) the size of the order and b) whether advance payment has been

made or not (fill “yes” for advance payment).

4. A management institute charges MDP (Management Development Program)

participants based on the number of courses they opt for during a year. The

registration fee for a single course is Rs 5000. However, if a participant registers for

more than 2 courses he gets a discount of 10% on each course, if he registers for more

than 5 courses then he gets a discount of 15% on each course and for registration in

more than 7 courses he gets 20% discount. Additionally, if the participant brings more

participants through referral then he gets an additional discount of 10% on each of the

courses for which he has registered. Model the above problem using VLOOKUP

feature of excel. (The inputs are a) number of programs chosen by a participant and b)

whether he has recommended the program to others. The output is the net amount

paid by the participant)
