Dhirubhai Ambani 

The founder of Reliance


#Introduction
Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani was born on 28 December
1932 in a small village called Chorwad (Gujarat). He
died on 6 July 2002 in Mumbai. Reliance commercial
corporation was founded in 1966 as s polyester firm. In
1973 the company got renamed as Reliance industries.
Later the company entered into petroleum and financial
service. Upon his death, the company was headed by
his two sons Anil Ambani and Mukesh Ambani. 
 

Dhirubhai Ambani was the son of Hirachand


Gordhanbhai Ambani. His father was a teacher in a
small village school. Dhirubhai Ambani got married with
Kokila and had four children Mukesh Ambani, Anil
Ambani, Nina Bhadrashyam Kothari, and Dipti Dattaraj
Salgaocar. You may get surprised by knowing his
qualifications that Dhirubhai Ambani had passed the
only 10th. After completing high school, he was doing a
small job. According to Aajtak, his starting salary was
300 rupees. However, by giving extra effort and time, he
became a business tycoon.

#Early career
When he turned 17, he went to yamen where his brother
Ramniklal was working. In yamen, Dhirubhai
Ambani was working at a petrol pump. Later he became
filling manager at the company. He worked in yamen for
a while, after a few years he returned to India. Living in
yamen, he dreamed to become a businessman.

#The founding of Reliance


Industries.
Dhirubhai Ambani returned to India in 1958 He started a
textile business “Majin” along with his cousin
Champaklal. Majin used to export goods like spices and
rayon in yamen and import polyester. Dhirubhai
Ambani was set up the first office at the Narsinatha
Street in Masjid Bunder. The office area was 33-meter
square. in a 350 square foot area, Ambani had kept very
few and important things like three chairs, one
telephone, and one table.
During the time, Dhirubhai Ambani and his family
members were living in two BHK apartment. In 1956,
their partnership (Dhirubhai Ambani and Champaklal)
got ended. It believed that both had a different point of
view to run a business this is why their partnership didn’t
work out very well. Ambani had good marketing
knowledge, he was also known as a risk-taker and
believed that in building inventories to rise income. In
1966 he launched a company called Reliance
Commercial Corporation which later renamed the
company, now this company known as Reliance
industries.

#Death
Dhirubhai Ambani was suffering from a major stroke.
His first stroke had occurred in 1986 during the time his
right hand got paralyzed. After his second stroke, he
admitted to Breach Candy Hospital. He went coma for
more than a week and passed away on 6 July 2002.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India
he said
  “Thecountry has lost iconic proof of what
an ordinary Indian fired by the spirit of
enterprise and driven by determination can
achieve in his own lifetime.” 

#Awards and recognition


Dhirubhai Ambani got plenty of awards and recognition
which I would like you to know about them. According to
Wikipedia,
 1996, 1998, and 2000 he was the 50th most
influential people in Asia. This recognition got from
Asia week magazine.
 In 1998, he got Dean’s medal by the Wharton
School, the University of Pennsylvania, for your
information, Dhirubhai Ambani was first Indian who
received Dean’s medal.
 In 2000, he received an award called the Conferred
Man of the century award. This award was given by
Chemtech Foundation
 In 2001, he received the Economic Time award.
 FICCI (Federation of Indian chambers of commerce
and industry) named him “Man of 20th Century”
 In January 2016, Dhirubhai Ambani got awarded
from Padma Vibhushan.
