CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
This report describes a three months internship with Kimiowei’s Oil
and Gas Limited. The internship covered the period from 26 th March,
2021 until 7th April, 2021. Mrs Margaret Adeola was the internship
supervisor. I was posted to the gas section of the company where Mr
Amadi Maxwell supervised me on a daily basis.
The duties assigned to me during this internship were dispensing gas
at the pumps, taking stocks of gas dispensed daily, taking accounts of
gas sold during shifts and assisting in the refill of gas in the storage
tanks.
The orientation phase of the internship was made up of a short
briefing on the importance of safety while working in the gas
environment and how the intern should conduct himself in
accordance with the company’s policy. The intern was taught the
necessary skills to be used during the internship such as customer
management, finance, communication, and technical skills. It also
improved my teamwork with the workers. All necessary paperwork
were completed and documented.

CHAPTER II
ACTIVITIES
The activities the intern carried out during this period of training
were as follows;
 Orientation
 Handling gas cylinders
 Dispensing gas
 Stock taking
 Refilling of storage tanks for both LPG and PMS stations

ORIENTATION
During the orientation, the intern was taught safety methods and
conducts around the workplace. The safety conducts that were
imperative to follow were;
I. Avoid the use of cell phones around the gas station.
II. Turn on the sprinkler system at intervals to cool the gas
storage tank after usage.
Diagra

III. No smoking.
IV. Turn off the dispensing machine after dispensing for
customers.
V. Wear face masks to avoid inhaling gas.

I was also taught how to handle customers when they arrive. Be nice,
polite and respectful to them. Listen to their complaints whenever
they have one and attend to it appropriately.
Also, the intern learnt about the different tools used in dispensing
gas and how to use them. The tools were the valves and the nozzle
from the dispensing machine. The valves come in different shapes
and sizes and are used according to the valve that is on the gas
cylinder to be refilled. Below are some of the valves used when
dispensing gas in an LPG cylinder;

HANDLING LPG CYLINDERS

The LPG cylinders come in different sizes and with different valve
shapes. The sizes I encountered on the job were 3kg, 5kg, 6kg, 7kg,
10kg, 12kg, 15kg, 25kg, and 50kg.
Some gas cylinders might leak and so to check for leakage, we either
put a finger on the mouth of the valve and if u feel pressure, then
there is a leakage or we pour soapy water on the bottle and
anywhere bubbles form is a sign of leakage.
Diagram 6.0
In some cases, soap can be used to temporarily stop the leakage or in
some other cases, the customer is advised to change the cylinder.

DISPENSING GAS
The intern was also taught how to dispense gas to customers.
Considering the type of cylinder to be filled, the process of
dispensing is as follows;
 The dispensing machine is turned on from the switch.
 The valve matching the valve on the cylinder gas head is
connected.
 The nozzle is then connected to the valves.
diagram 7.0
 The price or litre amount the customer wants to buy is then
programmed on the machine and the process begins.
 After the gas has been dispensed the nozzle is then
disconnected with the valves and the machine is switched off.
Also, after the cylinder has been refilled, it is advisable to check the
rubber on the cylinder gas head and replace it if necessary.
It is also worthy to note that the gas tank is connected to a pump
which then pumps the gas into the dispensing machine from which
the nozzle is connected to.
Diagram 8.0
STOCK TAKING
In the period of the internship, the intern was tasked with taking
stocks after working a shift. The steps to taking the stock were as
follows;
 After each work shift, the amount of cash gotten from sales was
calculated.
 The amount of gas units sold for the day was then gotten from
the machine.
Diagram 9.0

Note: before the start of every shift, the amount of units sold
from the previous shift is noted and will be used to determine
the amount sold for the next shift.
 The amount of units sold from the previous shift is then
subtracted from the amount of units sold on the current shift.
The result of that calculation is then multiplied by the price per
kg unit of gas to give the amount of gas sold for the day.
i.e (amount of units sold on current shift – amount of units sold
on previous shift) * price per kg unit of gas = Amount of gas
sold for the day.
 If the results from the machine and the counting of cash match,
then it is noted. If the result from the machine is greater than
the result from the counting of cash, then it is noted that there
is a shortage of profit. If the result from the machine is less
than the counting of cash, then it is noted that there is an
excess in profit.
 After this is done, the gas tank has to be checked to see the
level of gas remaining so as to determine if it is time for a refill
or not.
REFILLING OF STORAGE TANKS FOR BOTH LPG AND PMS STATIONS
For the period of the internship, I assisted in the refill of LPG and
PMS in their respective storage tanks. The process of the refill for
both the LPG and PMS tanks are as follows;
LPG
 When the truck arrives, the worker in charge of the gas station
has to check and record the initial reading of the metre on the
electric car connected to the tank on the truck.
 After that, the worker checks the reading on the gas storage
tank.
Note: refills are called for when the percentage of gas in the
storage tank is below 40%.
 The hose is connected from the truck to the storage tank with
a pump as well. All the valves leading to the exit pump are
turned off. The dispensing machine is then turned off and the
process starts.
 After the gas has been dispensed in the storage tank, the gas is
allowed to settle.
 The final reading is then taken from the metre on the electric
car on the truck. The initial reading is subtracted from the final
reading. Also, the final reading on the storage gas tank is
taking. Whatever the result is, the worker reports it to the
company. The result helps to determine if what the company
paid for was supplied in full.
Note: the type of gas tank used in this company is a skilled type
gas type which means it is automatic.

PMS
 When the truck arrives, the petrol is allowed to settle. A
calibrated aluminium rod that has been coated with dipping
paste is then used to determine the level of petrol that was
brought. This process is referred to as ullaging.
Note: this rod is calibrated from 0 litres to 50,000 litres.
 Also, the calibrated rod is used to check the level of petrol in
the underground storage tank. This process is referred to as
dipping.
 After the measurements are taken, the hose is then connected
from the truck to the underground tank and then the refill
process starts.
Note: all pumps that the petrol is being pumped to must be
turned off for safety reasons.
 After the process is finished, a bucket is put under the truck and
the remnant of the petrol is offloaded in the bucket. This
process is called draining.
 The calibrated rod is used to check the level of gas after the
supply to determine if what was paid for was supplied in full.
CHAPTER III

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED DURING THE INTERNSHIP

There were a few problems experienced during the internship. They
are as follows;
 Gas leakage when dispensing: some gas cylinders had faults
and leaked and the intern was required to use technical skills to
solve the situation such as changing faulty rubbers, using soap
to block leakages on the cylinder heads.
Also, leakages can come from faulty connection with the valves
and the intern was required to fix the fault.
 Customer behaviour: during the internship, the intern was
privileged to meet and interact with people of different tribes,
ideologies, personalities etc. A couple of occasions arose when
the intern was faced with not so well-behaved customers and
the intern was able to handle the situation with the help of a
supervisor.
 Customer complaint: a couple of customers complained about
their gas not able to light and this could be as a result of faulty
burners, faulty regulators, or overfill of the gas in the cylinder.
CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSION
I, the intern gained a lot of practical experiences during my
internship with Kimiowei’s Oil and Gas Limited. Each task
carried out increased my insight into the workings of the
industry and my understanding of people’s personalities. From
the orientation to the tasks assigned to me, a new skill was
gained. The programme also taught me the importance of
teamwork. The staffs of the company were amazing and I had a
good rapport with them. In summary, the purpose of the
programme which was to gain hands-on experience in the field
was accomplished.
