Guntner Heat Exchangers: ... Keep(s) Your Quality

The document discusses Guntner heat exchangers that feature Ziehl-Abegg external rotor motor fans. It summarizes four key advantages of these fans: 1. They have thermal contacts cast in the motor winding that precisely monitor temperature to avoid overheating. 2. They are sealed with a labyrinth seal, protecting the motor from water during cleaning and allowing condensation to drain. 3. As the impeller and rotor form a single balanced unit, they run smoothly without vibration. 4. They generate less noise at comparable speeds while maintaining condenser capacity, as demonstrated by their innovative fan technology.

1. ARE YOUR FAN MOTORS PROTECTED
FROM OVERHEATING?
External rotor motor
Rotor = fan hub

What are you used to?

You are used to NEMA motors without
motor protection or motors with an
integrated Klixon, within the junction
box, with a delayed-action thermal
response time.

What’s new with Guntner units

featuring Ziehl-Abegg fans?
These fans are external rotor motors
with thermal contacts that are cast in
the winding. Precise winding tempera-
ture is monitored and reliably avoids
destructive overheating. The cut-out
temperature is determined by the per-
missible maximum temperature of the
motor.

HOW TO WIRE
THE CONTROL CIRCUIT:

The cast thermal contacts are connec-

ted to the motor terminal block and
must be connected to the electric
power supply in accordance with the
schematic at the right.
It is preferable to include a manual re-
set switch as shown in the schematic.
Without this manual re-set interlock the
motor would switch on and off con-
tinuously, ultimately destroying the
motor. This start – stop action in the
event of overheating cannot be avoided
in motors with an auto re-set protection
device.

2. ARE YOU CLEANING
YOUR EVAPORATORS/CONDENSERS
WITH WATER OR STEAM?

No problem! The Guntner units feature

a protection class in accordance with
TEAO – totally enclosed air over. This
means that the Ziehl-Abegg external
rotor motor fans are sealed with a
labyrinth seal impeding the ingress of
splash water. Moreover, condensation
water can drain off through drain holes.

3. DO YOUR EVAPORATORS/
CONDENSERS RUN SMOOTHLY
AND OPERATE SAFELY?

You are used to NEMA motors and

impellers that are manufactured by
different firms. The outcome of this is
that the two components are not
balanced together.
In Guntner units with Ziehl-Abegg fans,
this is not the case. Because of the
external rotor assembly, the impeller
and rotor form one complete unit and
are perfectly balanced as such.
The illustration opposite shows the
two-plane balancing for a Ziehl-Abegg
fan in the factory.

4. DO NOISE LEVELS
PLAY A ROLE?

Specifications pertaining to lower

noise levels usually require lower
rpm motors resulting in reduced
airflow and capacity.
Guntner units with Ziehl-Abegg
fans are clearly less noisy at com-
parable rpm’s, as shown in the
table opposite.

A comparison of the noise levels and associated con-
denser capacities show that Guntner units with Ziehl-
Abegg fans have lower noise levels and generally cover
a wider range of condenser capacity.
