Read the conversation and answer questions 1 to 7.

The Amazon rainforest is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. It is also known
as Amazonia and covers most of the Amazon Basin of South America. The Amazon River and
Amazon rainforest encompass nine different countries making it the largest wonder of nature.
Although the Amazon River and rainforest go through nine different countries over 60 percent
of it is located in Brazil.
The Amazon River is the longest river while the Amazon forest is the largest tropical
rainforest in the world and accounts for over half of the world's total rainforest. The age of the
Amazon River is estimated to be 11 million years.
The Amazon rainforest it's the world's richest and most varied biological reservoir
containing several million species of insects, plants, birds, and other forms of life with one in 10
species from around the world being found in this area. The Amazon rainforest despite being cut
down at an alarming rate still covers 2.7 million square miles but it may not be so in a few
years’ time.
Today, unfortunately this wonder is facing many threats. Wildfires are frequent
occurrences. Tn 2019 alone they were more than 74,000 fires between January and August, and
thousands of acres of forest were destroyed. Usually these fires are deliberately started in efforts
to illegally deforested land for cattle ranching. cattle ranching is the largest reason for
deforestation in every Amazon country accounting for 80% of current deforestation rates
