ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research was to find out the students’ mastery of using
synonyms of vocabulary in advertisement text at the ninth grade students of SMPN 3
Rambah Hilir. The researcher conducted this research on March , 2021. The
participant of this research were the ninth grade students of SMPN 3 Rambah Hilir
consisted of 95 students.This research was descriptive quantitative research. The
researcher analyze the students’ test result by checking their master in choosing similar
meaning of word in text correctly. This research was done with some steps: collecting the
data, analyzing the data,making conclusion, and report.Based on the analyzed the data
which by researcher, the researcher found that from 20 question given, it can be seen
thatwas 1 student got score 80, there were 3 students got score 70, there were 9 students
got 65 score, there were 13 students got 60 score, there were 21 students got 55 score,
there were 16 students got 50 score, there were 5 students got 45 score, there were 10
students got 40 score, there were 6 students got 35 score, there were 5 students got 30
score, there were 6 students got 25 score. After accumulating the total scores got, the
researcher looked for the average score due to their mastery of using synonyms of
vocabulary in advertisement text. The result showed that the average students’ score in
the test was 50 and it can be classified in Poor level.
