English Task: Make A Simple Analytical Exposition Text

The document discusses whether the environment has improved during the COVID-19 pandemic. It argues that the pandemic has led to several positive environmental impacts, including a 17% decrease in global CO2 emissions due to reduced transportation and industrial activity. It also notes improvements in air quality in various cities and increased water quality in Venice as marine tourism stopped. The pandemic provided opportunities for flora and fauna to thrive as human activity declined. However, these improvements were ultimately caused by reduced human activity rather than sustainable practices.

Is It True That The Environment Become Better During The
COVID-19 Pandemic?

The COVID-19 pandemic, also known as the coronavirus pandemic, is an

ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the
transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV 2),
which was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The outbreak was
declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in January 2020, and a
pandemic in March 2020. Apart from the negative impacts during the COVID-19
pandemic, there is one positive impact, that is an improvement of environment quality
globally.
First of all, Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) released
that world’s CO2 emission is recorded has been decreased up to 17% caused by
COVID-19 quarantine that applied in various countries. Almost a half (43%) from
global emissions decrease during the lockdown climax come from transportation and
industrial sector, mainly motorbike vehicle and commercial manufacture factory
(bbc.com, 24th May 2020). Image of NASA Earth Observatory satellite shows NO2
pollution in Wuhan, China is decreased sharply. Air pollution level in New York
decreased 50%, air quality in China increased 11,4%, and NO2 emission decreased in
Italia, Spain, and England (Rudiyanto, 2020). And for Indonesia condition, CREA
conveyed that maximum emission decrease reached 18,2%. NO2 gas level in Jakarta
went down around 40% from the last year gas level (bbc.com, 24th May 2020).
Secondly, there is an increase in water quality because the marine tourism is
stopped, as happened in Venesia, Italia. The water recreation place become more
clean, the canal that usually muddy seems clear during the Government of Italia
applied lockdown regulation. The existence of social restrictions and lockdown policy
in several countries also have positive impacts for biodiversity of flora and fauna.
Based on the PlantLife non-profit organization report, various type of plants and
flowers are seen growing more than usual. The effect, the presence of animals such as
birds, butterflies, and bees in the park are increasingly rife. Other than that,
endangered animals such as Olive Ridley turtles in India and Leatherback turtles in
Florida could spawn freely (Rudiyanto, 2020). Pandemic COVID-19 give an
opportunity to grow better for flora and give more space for fauna.
In conclusion, COVID-19 pandemic had various impacts on the global
environment. The positive impact marked by a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions,
urban water and air quality improved, also increased biodiversity. This is caused by
reduced human activity which is often destroys the natural sustainability. As the
citizens of the world, we have to take every possible action to care and protect our
environment. It is not only for us but for all the future generations to follow.
