Event Resetting
SMCS - 4490
Introduction
There are three ways to reset events. One method, which applies only to the EMCP 4 GSC, is to
reset the individual active events. The events are reset by navigating to the desired event in the
event log.
The second method applies to all modules other than the EMCP 4. The second method is a process
to reset all active events in the event log for that module. The events are reset by navigating to one
of the "Active" events in that event log.
The third method is an approach that resets all active events for all modules.
NOTICE
1. Press the "EVENT LOG" key in order to navigate directly to the event log.
2. Use the navigation keys at the "MAIN MENU" to select "VIEW". Press the OK key. Refer
to Illustration 1.

2. Use the navigation keys at the "VIEW" screen to select "Event Log". Press the OK key in
order to access the "EVENT LOGS" menu. Refer to Illustration 3.

3. Use the navigation keys at the "Event Log" screen to select "GENSET Control". Press the
OK key. The total number of active events for an ECM is listed to the right of the ECM.
Refer to Illustration 3.
Note: Illustration 3 shows five "STATUS" events. Three "PRESENT" or "ACTIVE" events
are shown for the "GENSET Control" and three for "Engine Control".

4. Use the navigation keys to highlight an ECM that has active events. Move the cursor down
in order to select the active event that requires resetting. Refer to Illustration 3.
Note: If the control is in stop mode, "RESET" will be shown and highlighted. Refer to
Illustration 4.
Events are ordered by the status of the event. "PRESENT" events are listed first.
"PRESENT" events are followed by "ACTIVE" events. Finally, "ACTIVE" events are
followed "INACTIVE" events. Within each status, the events are listed with the most recent
first.

If the event status is present, the "RESET" text will not be visible. The event cannot be reset
until the condition that caused the event has been addressed.
The second way to reset events is to reset all of the active events for the module. Begin by
navigating to one of the active events in the event log. The following method does not apply to the
EMCP 4 "GENSET" control log or the "Status Event" log.
As with any method, the control must be in "STOP" mode. Events are shown as "ACTIVE" if the
event is currently affecting the system. Events are shown as "INACTIVE" if the event is currently
affecting the system.
Note: The EMCP 4 will display a "PRESENT" status for events and all other modules will not.
2. Use the navigation keys at the "MAIN MENU" to select "VIEW". Press the OK key. Refer
to Illustration 1.

3. Use the navigation keys at the "VIEW" screen to select "Event Log". Press the OK key in
order to access the "EVENT LOGS" menu. Refer to Illustration 2.

4. Use the navigation keys to select the desired log. Press the OK key.
Note: Illustration 7 shows three present or active events under "GENSET EVENTS" and
one active event in the "External I/O EVENTS".

Note: If the control is in stop mode and the engine speed is zero, then "RESET MOD" will
be shown and highlighted. Refer to Illustration 8.

6. Press the "OK" key to reset all of the active events, that can be, in the event log for that
particular module.
Note: Modules other than the EMCP 4 cannot display events as "PRESENT". If pressing
the "OK" key at "RESET ALL" does not reset all of the events, the condition causing the
event being viewed may still be present. For example, if the engine shutdown due to high
coolant temperature, then the events will not reset until the coolant temperature drops below
the shutdown threshold.
1. Ensure that the control is in the stop mode and the engine speed is zero.
2. Execute the following steps from any screen. Press the "Reset" key. Refer to Illustration 9.

4. Press the "OK" key in order to continue to reset all events on all of the modules. Press the
"ESCAPE" key in order to "CANCEL" the reset operation. The display will show a list of
events that were reset and a list of events that were not reset after the "OK" key is pressed.
Note: "Reset All Events" will not reset "Present" events. For example, if the stop button is pressed
and an emergency stop switch activated shutdown is present, the event cannot be reset until the
run button (15) is pressed and the event status changes from "PRESENT" to "ACTIVE".
1. One of the outputs must be configured as a "Command/Status" for ECU fault reset.
2. The corresponding relay output must be wired to a corresponding "Fault Reset I/O" pin on
the engine ECM or the relay must be set up to power cycle the ECM.
3. Press the "RESET ALL" key to activate the "ECU FAULT RESET". Refer to Illustration 9.
Resetting events for engine ECMs without the primary "CAN Data Link" support will
activate the corresponding relay output. The procedure will also trigger the engine ECU to
reset related faults or will power cycle the ECU.
The procedure will only activate the "ECU FAULT RESET" output if the EMCP has a
warning or fault. The warning or fault can be triggered by using a custom event on a digital
input that is wired to the fault alarm of the ECU.

There are common reasons for the EMCP 4 to allow events to not be reset:
The following information provides an explanation of the service maintenance interval warning
and not in auto warning.
The "Not in Auto Warning" event is present whenever the control is in either "RUN" or "STOP".
Therefore, the event cannot be reset while still in "STOP" mode since the event is still present.
The event will reset when the control is returned to "AUTO". The event can be disabled by
modifying the configuration of the set point for "Generator Control Not in Automatic" warning
event response.
A service maintenance interval warning that is present cannot be reset. The warning is present
because the countdown timer has reached zero. To clear the warning, the timer must be reset
rather than the event.
The timer returns to the programmed interval when reset. The timer must be reset from the
display. The timer cannot be reset by using the Cat Service Tool alone. The service maintenance
interval warning can only be disabled by using the "Event Response Configuration".
Note: The warning does not appear on the face of the EMCP 4 as a flashing LED unless
configured to do so within Cat ET. The warning appears under the "Event Response Configuration
- Engine Protection Events".
