ROTARY
Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service,
encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.
Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 34,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and
geographical areas. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and
professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are non-political, non-religious,
and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.
The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.
The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is a not-for-profit corporation that promotes world
understanding through international humanitarian service programs and educational and cultural
exchanges. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians who share its vision of a better
world.
The present president of the Rotary International (R.I.P.) is Rtn. Shekar Mehta. a member of the Rotary
Club of Calcutta - Mahanagar, West Bengal, India, has been selected to serve as president of Rotary
International in 2021-22 his presidential theme being Serve to Change Lives. The president elect is Rtn.
Jennifer Jones of Canadian origin.
There are 28 districts in India which are now under zone five and six. Zone five consists of 17 districts of
India, one joint district of India and Nepal and the only district in Pakistan.
HISTORY OF ROTARY
Paul P. Harris, an attorney who wished to recapture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had
felt in the small towns of his youth, formed the world’s first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois,
USA, on 23 February 1905. The name "Rotary" derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among
members' offices.
Rotary's popularity spread throughout the United States in the decade that followed; clubs were chartered
from San Francisco to New York. By 1921, Rotary clubs had been formed on six continents, and the
organization adopted the name Rotary International a year later.
As it approached the dawn of the 21st century, Rotary worked to meet the changing needs of society,
expanding its service effort to address such pressing issues as environmental degradation, illiteracy, world
hunger, and children at risk. The organization admitted women for the first time (worldwide) in 1989. It
started off with an enactment to delete the word male from the Standard Rotary Club Constitution is
proposed by a Rotary club in India for the Council on Legislation meeting at the 1950 RI Convention. In June
2011, there were 197,044 female Rotarians worldwide and 91 women were district governors.
Following the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Rotary clubs were formed
or re-established throughout Central and Eastern Europe. The first Asian to become R.I. President from Asia
was Nitish Laharry (1962-63) from Calcutta. We had to wait another thirty years for another Indian to be
elected as R.I. President. In 1991-92 Rajendra K.Saboo (Raja Saboo) from Chandigarh had the rare
opportunity of leading the world's leading service organisation. Raja Saboo also served as the Chairman of
The Rotary Foundation (1996-97), the only Indian to hold the position in Rotary's history. Rtn. Kalyan
Banerjee recreated history as he was the R.I. President in 2011-12 and served as the Chairman of the Rotary
Foundation in 2016-17.
● Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
● Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.
● International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the globe
and to promote world understanding and peace.
● Vocational Service (Professional Development) encourages Rotarians to serve others through their
vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
PAUL HARRIS FELLOW
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have
contributions made in their name, of US$1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
It was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what
was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the
precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships. Many notable figures have been named as Paul Harris
Fellows, including U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, U.S. astronaut James
Lovell, UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, and Jonas Salk.
1. Is it TRUTH? There is timelessness in truth that is unchangeable. Truth cannot exist without
justice.
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? The substitution of fairness for the harsh principles of doing
business at arm's length has improved rather than hurt business relationships.
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Man is by nature a co-operative creature
and it is his natural instinct to express love.
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? This question eliminates the dog-eat-dog principle and
substitutes the idea of constructive & creative competition.
This Club has inspired the incorporation of 26 Interact clubs, with about 750 school children as
members, and six Rotaract clubs with a membership of about 200 college students. There is also a very
active Inner Wheel Club.
HISTORY OF ROTARACT
Rotaract has evolved quickly in its short but dynamic history. In the early 1960s, Rotary clubs around
the world began to sponsor university youth groups as community service projects. The 1967-68 RI
president, Luther H. Hodges, and the RI Board of Directors considered this club activity to have
international relevance, and Rotaract was approved in 1968 as an official program for Rotary clubs.
The first club chartered was the Rotaract Club of North Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, on 13 March
1968. The decision to adopt the program came at a time when student protests worldwide were of
growing concern to Rotarians. Rotaract was the means of challenging the energies of the young adults
into positive activities that could benefit their community. Rotaract originally began as a Rotary
International youth programme. Today it continues to experience its phenomenal growth. There are
currently more that 9,500 Rotaract Clubs spread over 178 countries, with an estimated membership
of more than 219,000 Rotaractors. The program continues to grow making it a true global movement
with motto of ‘Self Development through Service and Fellowship'.
DISTRICT GOVERNOR
An elected Rotarian, who serves as an officer of RI and represents the RI Board of Directors in the field,
leads each of the more than 500 Rotary districts worldwide. The District Governor appoints a District
Rotaract Chair and the District Rotaract Committee (comprised of Rotarians) to address this issue. This
committee works to organize new Rotaract clubs in the district, increase communication among
Rotaract clubs, and plan district wide training for Rotaract club officers. The District Governor for 2021-
22 is Rtn. Rajendra Agarwal.
The District Rotaract Representative is a Rotaractor elected by the Rotaract clubs in the district. A
Rotaractor must complete one year as a Rotaract club president or as a member of the Rotaract district
committee, which is comprised of Rotaractors, before serving as district Rotaract representative. In
districts with only one Rotaract club, the district Rotaract representative is the most recent, available
past Rotaract club president or current president if the club is recently organized. The District Rotaract
representative serves as a liaison between the Rotaract clubs and the District Rotaract Committee
(comprised of Rotarians) and Rotary International. The District Rotaract Representative should provide
the district and RI World Headquarters with reports of exceptional club projects for international
promotion. Rotaract clubs can help the District Rotaract Representative strengthen the district
communication network by providing regular updates on new club officers and address changes.

INTERACT
Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are
sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-
governing and self-supporting.
Club membership varies greatly. Clubs can be single gender or mixed, large or small. They can draw
from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools in the same community.
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers
international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of
friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of
● Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
● Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
● Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
● Advancing international understanding and goodwill
As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than
10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide
phenomenon. Almost 200,000 young people are involved in Interact.
H.R. College
R.C.H.R. cannot exist without H.R. College. The college is an integral part of what we do and is
essential to our functioning.
In recent years, relations with college authorities have become of utmost importance to the
working of R.C.H.R. Some of the important people to keep in mind are:
Teacher-in-Charge – Prof. Niren Mehta
Registrar & Treasurer – Mrs. Ragini
Principal Inc.- Prof. Pooja Ramchandani
GETTING STARTED
Once you have a feel for the program and the types of young people who would be attracted to a
Rotaract club, you are ready to plan your strategy for starting a new club. There are two types of
Rotaract clubs to consider: community based clubs and university-based clubs. In community-based
clubs, all members of the community ages 18-30 are potential candidates for membership. A Rotarian
from the sponsoring Rotary club should be appointed to serve as the primary adviser for the newly
forming Rotaract club once the organizers have decided that a community-based club is preferred.
University-based clubs also consist of members from ages 18 to 30, but they must be enrolled in
university courses (Rotaract clubs established at colleges would be considered university-based).
Those who wish to organize a university-based Rotaract club should work closely with the university
administration, explaining the purpose and goals of both Rotary and Rotaract. It is important to stress
that Rotary intends to comply with school regulations regarding student organizations. If university
administrators and the Rotaract club organizers determine that a university-based club would be
mutually beneficial, then the Rotaract club organizers should find a member of the faculty to serve as
an adviser to the club. The faculty adviser must be willing to work closely with the students in a non
classroom setting and should be generally well liked by students. The faculty adviser should also work
with an adviser from the sponsoring Rotary club and the Rotaract club organizers to develop a
recruitment strategy to attract members to the new club.
INAUGRAL CEREMONY
The inaugural ceremony marks the official certification of the Rotaract club by Rotary International.
The Rotary club sponsor(s) may wish to plan and host an inaugural ceremony welcoming new
Rotaractors as partners in Rotary service. Each ceremony is unique and has no set format. You might
wish to invite district leaders such as the district governor, District Rotaract Chair, and District Rotaract
Representative to this celebration to help establish the presence of the new Rotaract club in the
district.
INSTALLATION CEREMONY
Another special moment for your new Rotaract club will be the installation of club officers. An officer
installation can be a ceremonious occasion or a gala at which the new club officers are officially
recognized as the club’s leadership for the year. After the inaugural year, the annual installation
ceremony is held to thank the past officers for their year of dedicated work and to greet new officers
for the year to come. The incoming president and officers of the sponsoring Rotary club should be
invited to this event so they can get acquainted with the new Rotaract club officers. This can increase
communication between Rotaract and Rotary clubs and strengthen joint projects and activities.
Congratulations! You've reached the end. So many pages later, do you feel like you know
your passion better?
Moral: You’re the future because you’ve been infused with the thought to dream big.
You have it in you; you just have to look down deeper. You’re here now, you’re here to
LEAVE YOUR MARK!
