FOR  SIXTH  GRADE  SCHOLARS:  
 
Sixth  grade  scholars  must  read  a  minimum  of  two  books  this  summer.  One  book  is  the  
required  book  that  all  scholars  will  read  and  discuss.  Scholars  will  then  choose  one  more  
book  from  the  list.  All  books  should  be  read  prior  to  the  first  day  of  school.  
 
The  following  book  is  required  reading  for  Summer  2010.  There  will  be  a  comprehension  
test  on  the  book  in  August.  
 
REQUIRED:  
1. Pictures  of  Hollis  Wood,  Patricia  Giff  
 
Also  choose  one  of  the  following  books  and  prepare  a  two-­‐page  book  report,  which  should  
include  a  list  of  characters,  the  purpose  of  the  book,  and  the  student’s  reaction  to  the  book.  
This  report  is  due  Thursday,  August  5,  2010.  
 
CHOICES:

FOR  SEVENTH  GRADE  SCHOLARS:  
 
Seventh  grade  scholars  are  required  to  read  a  minimum  of  four  books  this  summer.  One  
book  is  the  required  book  that  all  scholars  will  read  and  discuss.  Scholars  will  then  choose  
three  other  books  from  the  list.  All  books  should  be  read  prior  to  the  first  day  of  school.  
 
The  following  book  is  the  required  reading  book  for  Summer  2010.  There  will  be  a  
comprehension  test  on  the  book  in  August.

Additionally,  scholars  must  choose  three  other  books  to  read  and  should  expect  to  be  able  
to  compare  and  contrast  the  characters  in  their  chosen  books,  as  well  as  compare  and  
contrast  the  themes  of  the  three  books.

required  book  that  all  scholars  will  read  and  discuss.  Scholars  will  then  choose  two  more  
books  from  the  list.  All  books  should  be  read  prior  to  the  first  day  of  school.  
 
The  following  book  is  required  reading  for  Summer  2010.  Prepare  a  three-­‐page  book  
report  including  character  analysis,  theme,  tone  and  reader  reaction  to  be  handed  in  on  
Thursday,  August  5,  2010.  A  piece  of  representational  artwork  (book  cover,  book  mark,  
character  creation  like  Alice  as  a  doll,  collage,  drawing  or  painting  of  a  scene  or  a  comic  
book  review)  will  also  be  due  on  Thursday,  August  5,  2010  
 
REQUIRED:  
1. Alice  in  Wonderland,  Lewis  Carroll  
 
Also  choose  two  of  the  following  books  to  read.  Students  will  take  a  comprehension  test  on  
the  two  books  they  have  chosen  in  August.

3. Out  of  the  Dust,  Karen  Hesse
