ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We are really thankful because we managed to complete our research paper within the

time given by our teacher Sir Clein John Reyes. This research cannot be completed without the

efforts and cooperation from our group members Joyce Solomon, Angelica Pioquinto, Jerusha

Mae Mababa, Janneth Balansa, Heizel Tolentino and Mark Lowei Latumbo. Last but not the

least, we would like express our gratitude to our parents and respondents for the support and

willingness to spend some times with us to fill in the questionnaires.

DEDICATION

. This study whole heartedly dedicated to our families and friends who helped us in doing

this research and especially to our classmates who are always willing to help us when we don’t

know what to do. And a special thanks to our teacher Mr. Clein John Reyes who always there

when we needed him. Last but not the least we would like thank for our Almighty God who

gives us strength, knowledge and wisdom for doing our research

Abstract

the research entitled " your grades have been slain: The impacts of mobile phones on the

academic performances of students. It intended to know how do students get affected in the

impacts of mobile phones on their academic performances. This research work examines phone

usage and identified the effects the internet enables mobile phones to have on the academic
5

performance of the student. the research work was performed so as to understand and also find

the correlation between the academic of students and the usage of mobile phones during class

hours which is generally believed to be an avenue of distractions to the student.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Mobile phones for almost everything now. Gone are the days when we use them for only

calling. Now, our lives resolve around it. They come in use for communicating trough voice,

messages, and mails. We can also surf the internet using a phone. Most importantly, we also

click photos and record videos through our mobile cameras. Mobile phones are efficient

communication devices and make life easier, as a student it helps us to communicate to other

people and help us through our studies, research, projects and etc. It is also make us more

knowledgeable by reading article about things making us curios. You can say that mobile phones

are important because it helps us in our home works, project, works and in emergencies even it

helps us to order food to a fast food chain with the help of mobile apps and also you can buy

things in the use of mobile apps without bothering on how you will get your order. ”Today’s

student, everywhere in the world, lives in technological era in era which the Internet and google

and text messaging never didn’t exist” according to Jacobs(2010).

6

The rapid evolution of mobile phones in today’s generation is giving them enough

understanding and comprehension. People nowadays are smart and wise some of them became

successful with the help of mobile phones, with the help of mobile phones they use networking

or also a part time job. Networking business is about interacting with people and engaging them

for mutual benefit. It can be established a new business or grow an existing one. Mobile phone

effect on us is doing good and bad, doing of our homework assignments is useful for finding out

the idea or other needs of a student not just in school also used to quickly announce that like to

say lame wood to one another but is in often misused by other students used in the wrong way

such as watching porn and what else is doing so it is best to use it well to help others. And for the

other effects of mobile phones in our daily lives e almost forget the things that is more important

than using mobile phones. In fact, we didn’t notice our surroundings because of mobile phones.

We didn’t notice what is really happening in today’s generation. We don’t have enough time to

watch television or to watch some news because we spending our time for that type of

technology. So, for the last thing we should limit ourselves in using mobile phones because there

are dangerous effect when we keep using it incorrectly.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The main purpose of this study is to determine the students who are using mobile phones and

to know the contribution of mobile phones in terms of academic purposes. Specially, this study

aims to answer the following specific questions;

7

1. How phones help students in terms of academic purposes?

2. What is your primary purpose for using internet on your mobile phones?

help them to improve their parenthood in watching vlogs or reading an article on the internet.

Researcher as a young researcher/s mobile phones can help me/us to find a better answer to our

problem and also it help us to contact our members by using “Messenger”. It even make our

research/study more pleasant. Future Researcher- In the near future we all knew that the

evolution of mobile phone grows so fast. So, I think mobile phone then are very smart and

upgraded and it can help them to lessen their problem in conducting a research.
8

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The researcher's focal points is to study about the impacts of using mobile phones to the

academic performance of the students of Manaoag National High School Senior High School.

The study will greatly help in order to know the importance and hindrances of using mobile

phones to every student. The researcher's choose the students as the respondents whereas mostly

performance which will be obtain by the procedures in the figures, first is for looking for certain

respondents and the explanation regarding the survey and the third one is the respondents

answering the given questions from the survey and we proceeding to the last figure which is

main concern of the study.

11

CHAPTER II

METHODOLOGY

This chapters include research design, population and local of the study, the data gathering

tools, validation and evaluation, and also the data gathering procedures that will be used in the

study.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The researchers used descriptive method and observational method of research which is a

fact finding study with adequate interpretation. The process of descriptive research goes beyond

tabulation of data, it goes deeper by analyzing it’s meaning. It involved describing, analyzing

and interpreting the condition that new exist. This is because the researcher intends to find out

the impact of mobile phone on academic performance among secondary school students in

Manaoag National and Senior High School.

POPULATION AND LOCALE OF THE STUDY

The number of respondents in this study is 60 students. The respondents that will be used in

this study will be gathered from the Grade 11 and Grade 12 will be gathered from different

sections of Manaoag National High School Senior High School, especially during School Year

2019-2020.
12

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

An interview where there are series of question that are in written form will be used in this

study. This study will use written interviews for senior students, as its main data collection to

identify and examine the factors that contributes to the problem of using mobile phones on

student performance. The interview sheet will be provided by the researcher. The researcher will

write a personal letter for the administrator of Manaoag National High School to ask permission

for their survey in Senior High School students, in order to support the validity of their data to

gather more information about their research topic.

DATA GATHERING TOOL

In this study, written interview will be used to gather information.the interview sheet will

be given to (60) students (Grade 11 and 12 ) of Manaoag National High School Senior High

School.

The interview sheet sheet includes three parts: Respondents Profile, interview sheet. The first

part talks about the background of the respondents including the name, section, sex, and

strand/section.

The second part is the interview proper containing the set of question to be answered by the

respondents related to the research problems, The second part of interviews have three question.

The last part is the survey proper in which the researchers used likert scale which has the verbal

interpretation of very aware, slightly aware, aware, not aware. We, researchers, used the

numbering from one to four for them to answer all the given questions for that certain topic.
13

VALIDATION AND EVALUATION

The researcher will conduct a study to determine the factors contributing to the impact of

mobile phones on student performance in Manaoag National High School. The researcher

decided to make an interview sheet for gathering data in knowing the factors of contributing the

problem of students using mobile phones in Manaoag National High School. The researcher

made an interview sheet in order for the respondents to understand it easily, to avoid mistake and

errors or misunderstood words in the questionnaires to gather an accurate result.

After founding out that interview sheet made by the researcher was reliable, after checking

by the research teacher Mr. Clein John Reyes, it will be noted by the head of HUMSS strand Dr.

Getty Segundo and the researcher will secure a written permit from the assistant principal Mr.

Edwin P. Quinto to allow the researcher to conduct an interview in different sections of Senior

High School students of Manaoag National High School Senior High School. After the permit

have been approved, the interview sheet will be distributed to the students on a particular day

and will be retrieve after they answer it.
