BHGE ProductionLink™ Options For Data Connectivity

BHGE's ProductionLink offers customers several options for data connectivity including accessing data through a secure web interface, configuring alarms and reports, and establishing data feeds through methods such as Modbus polling, direct connections using OPC-UA or PI-API, or transferring extracted data in CSV files via SFTP. The document also discusses supporting OPC Universal Architecture, legacy PI connectivity, and performing extract-transform-load for disconnected data transfer.

BHGE’s ProductionLink™ Offers Customers Several Options for Data Connectivity

Data at the user’s command

ProductionLink users have several tools at hand in the user interface to get the data they need through
the Secure SSL/HTTPS web interface:
 On screen data grids, trend charts, dashboards, maps and analytics
 Power Users can initiate Demand Scans to get Modbus data with finer resolution in critical
moments
 Customizable alarm on-screen, by email and SMS Text Messages
 On demand and scheduled PDF Reports by email
 On demand and scheduled CSV Data Reports by email
 On demand CSV and XLSX Data Exports of Real-time and Historic data.

Data Connectivity

A prerequisite is the data feed to ProductionLink. We have several options to get data feeds into the
system:
 Modbus polling of field controllers over Cellular or Satellite Carriers Private Networks
 Direct Connections to customer SCADA or data historian servers using OPC-UA or PI-API over
Virtual Private Network
 Transfer of extracted data in CSV files via SFTP
These second two methods can are bi-directional. If you want ProductionLink data sent to your system,
we can do that as well.

OPC-UA for IOT today and tomorrow

ProductionLink supports OPC Universal Architecture directly with its own OPC-UA Server and
Subscription Client. If your system only supports Classic OPC based on Microsoft DCOM, we can
interoperate. We offer an OPC to OPC-UA Wrapper for your use. We usually protect this traffic in an
IPSec VPN. Other options can be explored, such as SSL encryption if preferred.

Legacy PI Connectivity

Users of OSIsoft PI can choose to use OPC or ETL, but for those who find the PI-API a comfortable choice,
we can support that by using a VPN connection to protect the traffic. We will need to work with your PI
Admin on getting a PI Security Group and a Trust of the IP, to ensure we only read the data you specify.

Data ETL: Extract – Transform – Load for disconnected data transfer

For an un-connected transfer of data, we can use CSV files via SFTP. For a data feed to ProductionLink
with this option, the customer IT team will create a job that extracts data from their database, formats it
into the ProductionLink input format, and sends the files to our FTP Server via the encrypted Secure File
Transfer Protocol. This method appeals to customers who do not want direct network connections, and
have IT resources who are skilled at writing Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) jobs. This approach is also
bi-directional.
