SAMURAI VS KNIGHT: 3 STAR

WHAT IS A SAMURAI?

The word Samurai means “one who serves”. Samurai were members of a powerful


military caste in feudal Japan. Samurai warriors had no ranks. They were well-educated
and followed a strict code of conduct called “Bushido”, meaning “the way of the
warrior”. Samurai fought for the honor and dignity of their country. Samurai played the
Japanese martial art known as “Kendo” and took part in tournaments.
Samurai tended to use weapons range tactics. When they were near their enemies, they
would use a sword and when they were far, they would use bows and arrows. Samurai
looked after their sword very well, as their sword was their life and honor. They used to
carry two swords during the fight, a “Katana”, and a shorter blade.

WHAT IS A KNIGHT?

A Knight is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a monarch or another


political leader for service to the monarch or country, especially in a military capacity.
Knights were great warriors. They were also very well sophisticated, educated and had
very good manners. They fought for the honor and dignity of their country.

Knights followed the rule known as “Chivalry”. They tended to charge in small groups,
and they intended to look fierce to make their enemies nervous. Armor of Knights was
made of metallic links and they used swords and shields in the fight. They used to cover
every inch of their bodies with a metallic covering during the fight. Knights had to start
training at the age of seven by being a servant or a page at the castle of the lord. A
Knight has a military rank, and they took part in tournaments.
