CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED TO BE A SECURITY OFFICER

Security guards play an important duty that is often overlooked by the general public. Stores,

sporting events, concerts, and restaurants all rely on these hardworking people. They aid with

the prevention of robberies, break-ins, and other criminal acts that would jeopardize the

safety of honest customers. We feel that hiring and adequately training the right person for

the position is critical for a security organization. Here are five qualities to look for in a good

security guard.

Alertness:

A talented safety officer is consistently watching out and mindful of what is happening

around him. It’s critical to maintain consistent focus and avoid distractions as much as

possible, or you risk missing something that could endanger life, or lose out on seeing a

criminal or thief in action. This characteristic of an officer indicates his or her readiness to

ensure the safety of people we protect.

Honesty:

A competent security guard should be trustworthy. They are in charge of securing building

access and protecting a business from theft and other crimes. If a security guard is dishonest,

he may steal or endanger the company. That is why it is critical for security firms to conduct

rigorous background checks on its guards to ensure that they have no criminal records.

Physical Fitness:

He should maintain a healthy weight and exercise on a regular basis. An unfit guard may not

be able to perform their job to its full potential. Mental alertness is linked to physical fitness.

The officer must provide a clean, professional image, with a nice uniform and a clean,

tucked-in shirt. A security guard should be well-dressed and project a positive image of
themselves and their customer. Security is at the top of the priority list when it comes to

dealings with the general public. At all times, the officer must be pleasant and professional.

Good Communication Skills:

An excellent security guard is able to effectively communicate both vocally and in writing.

Clear, respectful communication can make or break how well you handle a difficult

circumstance. Communication also enables the security officer to meticulously and precisely

document each and every important incident, as well as the facility’s state at the end of his or

her shift. Additionally, however vital as it very well might be for an official to be watchful

and mindful for the security of our customers, most of their associations will be with workers,

clients, or customers of individuals we monitor, so kindness and a cordial attitude are

fundamental.

Ability to Serve Client Needs:

A security guard must be detail-oriented because he must accomplish numerous tasks and

recall numerous information while serving our clients. In addition, the officer must be able to

obey directions from his or her superiors. Each security officer on duty is given a “post” that

he is responsible for. Written instructions depending on the client’s needs, referred to as “post

orders”, will be posted at each assigned location. Officers are trained on these specific

responsibilities before being assigned to a position.
