Module-4 in Module 4 We Have Done: - : Challenges Faced During Start-Ups

In module 4, students studied start-ups and the challenges they face, visited local industries to understand their requirements and problems, examined solar panels installed on rooftops, and studied local environmental and social issues. They learned that start-ups must overcome challenges such as competition, unrealistic expectations, hiring, and financial management. The visit identified electronics manufacturers' need to develop more energy efficient devices and form strategic partnerships. The solar panel study explained how panels convert sunlight to electricity. Students also analyzed the Swachh Bharat Mission's goal of eliminating open defecation and improving waste management.

Module-4

In module 4 we have done: -

Expert talk on Start-ups: Challenges and Opportunities
Visit to nearby relevant Industrial identify their requirements and challenges
Study of solar panels installed on rooftops
Local visit to face environmental and societal problems such as increasing traffic, traffic rule
violation, water wastage, challenges in implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission etc.

Understanding what are start-ups

A start-up is a young company founded by one or more entrepreneurs to develop a unique
product or service and bring it to market. By its nature, the typical start-up tends to be a
shoestring operation, with initial funding from the founders or their friends and families.

Challenges faced during start-ups

1. Fierce Competition.
2. Unrealistic Expectations.
3. Hiring Suitable Candidates.
4. Partnership Decision Making.
5. Financial Management.
6. Cyber Security.
7. Dealing with People.
8. Risk Management.
9. Leadership
10. Marketing

Some of the Start-ups in India

Visit to nearby relevant Industrial identify their requirements and challenges
1. International Campaign for Responsible Technology (ICRT), The Good
Electronics Network

Challenges facing:
 Electronics brands
 Manufacturers
 Suppliers to proactively reduce
 Eliminate chemical and physical hazard through the developments
 Adoption of safer alternatives

2. The Electronics Manufacturing Industry

Challenges and Requirements:

 The demand of smart electronics devices continues to rise.

 Pressure mount for green electronics manufacturing
 There’s a push for energy-efficient electronics, forcing manufacturing to
develop new devices that consume less energy.
 Strategic partnerships will help electronics manufactures control costs.
 Electronics manufacturers will place more on logistics for paid delivery.
 Turning a profit with declining prices.
 Keeping up in demands.

Study of Solar Panels installed on rooftops.

The term solar panel is used colloquially for a photo-voltaic (PV) module.

A PV module is an assembly of photo-voltaic cells mounted in a framework for installation.
Photo-voltaic cells use sunlight as a source of energy and generate direct current electricity.
A collection of PV modules is called a PV Panel, and a system of Panels is an Array. Arrays of
a photovoltaic system supply solar electricity to electrical equipment.

Photovoltaic modules use light energy (photons) from the Sun to generate electricity
through the photovoltaic effect. Most modules use wafer-based crystalline silicon cells
or thin-film cells.  The cells are connected electrically in series, one to another to the desired
voltage, and then in parallel to increase amperage. The wattage of the module is the
mathematical product of the voltage and the amperage of the module. The manufacture
specifications on solar panels are obtained under standard condition which is not the real
operating condition the solar panels are expose to on the installation site Some special solar
PV modules include concentrators in which light is focused by lenses or mirrors onto smaller
cells. This enables the use of cells with a high cost per unit area (such as gallium arsenide) in
a cost-effective way.
Solar panels also use metal frames consisting of racking components, brackets, reflector
shapes, and troughs to better support the panel structure.

Future Idea:
We made automobiles run by solar energy, using solar panels. Solar cars usually run on only
power from the sun, although some models will supplement that power using a battery, or
use solar panels to recharge batteries or run auxiliary systems for a car that mainly uses
battery power. Solar cars combine technology typically used in the aerospace, bicycle,
alternative energy and automotive industries.

Local visit to face environmental and societal problems.

Swachh Bharat Mission:

Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) or Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) or Clean India Mission was a
country-wide campaign  to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste
management (SWM) in urban and rural areas in India.
The objectives of the mission also included eradication of manual scavenging, generating
awareness and bringing about a behavioural change regarding sanitation practices, and
augmentation of capacity at the local level. Initiated by the Government of India

Impact
Impact of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on Environment. The need for maintaining right
cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene in any community cannot be gainsaid. It is perhaps the
most basic step towards keeping diseases at bay. Poor hygiene and cleanliness are one of
the worst enemies of young children.

Objectives
1. Elimination of open defecation.
2. Eradication of Manual Scavenging.
3. Modern and Scientific Municipal Solid Waste Management.
4. To effect behavioural change regarding healthy sanitation practices.
5. Generate awareness about sanitation and its linkage with public health.
6. Capacity Augmentation for Urban local Bodies (ULB’s)

Components
1. Household toilets, including conversion of insanitary latrines into pour-flush latrines
2. Community toilets
3. Public toilets
4. Solid waste management
5. Capacity building and Administrative & Office Expenses
