PRATT & WHITNEY AIRCRAFT NUCLEAR
JT-11 TURBOJET MAINE PERFORMANCE
TOH" ADVANCED NUCLEAR' SYSTEM

The estimated nuclear performance of the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft J-58
Mod. 1A turbojet engine, coupled directly to the lithium-cooled reactor,
has been computed for an envelope of operating flight conditions, and
the results are presented on a per engine basis In the attached charts.
Performance calculations have been made for nuclear heat alone, for
nuclear heat plus maximum Interbuming and for nuclear heat plus inter-
burning and afterburning. The calculations have been based on a design,
reactor power output of 95.85 Mw per engine. Lithium Is piped dlrectlys
to the engines from the reactor at 2000 F and is returned to the reactor
at 1600 F,
The weight of the JT-11 Mod. 1A turbojet engine, exclusive of radiator
is 5* 200 lb and 4,300 lb for the models with and vdthout afterburner,
respectively. The lithium to air radiator used with this engine weighbe
7,000 lb.

The estimated net thrust, airflow, and reactor power for the engine on
nuclear heat only operation is presented in Fig 1 to 3. 131© net thrush
and fuel consumption on nuclear heat plus maximum interbuming is pres£j
ented in Fig 4 and 5. Performance for both maximum and minimum after
burning is presented in Fig 6 to 9. The airflow and reactor power for
nuclear chemical operation Is approximately the same as for nuclear
heat alone as illustrated in Fig 2 and 3. The nuclear chemical per
formance quoted in these Figures is based on advanced chemical engines)}
