Ramos - Module 3 Lesson 1

Julia "Butterfly" Hill lived in a 600-1,000 year old, 180-foot-tall redwood tree for over 2 years to prevent a lumber company from cutting it down. Her perspective fits with the environmental movement as she wanted to preserve the tree and protect wilderness. The lumber company, as landowners, wanted to cut the tree to enhance economic growth. Ecologists believe logging old-growth trees causes damage as these trees provide important roles and benefits to the forest ecosystem and wildlife.

movement or the environmental movement?

movement because she wants to support that trees and lands
should be preserved and protect by people to maintain the
beauty of nature of the country, because she believes that

develop and enhance economic growth.

3. Based on issues faced in Tongass National Forest, why do ecologists

and environmentalists think that the logging of old-growth trees causes
particular damage?
 Ecologists and environmentalists think that the logging of old-
growth trees causes particular damage because these trees
help us in our daily needs and also it gives an important role in
the forest and also to the wildlife animals. Once the old threes
