What’s In
We all have different goals in life, right? We also differ in our priorities. As you now enter
the final phase of your being adolescent, start prioritizing setting important goals in life. One essential
goal that we need to talk about is our “Life Goals.”

Life goals basically refer to an individual’s aspirations, missions, ambitions, and dreams in
various aspects of his life. Life goals are what we want to achieve, and they’re much more meaningful
than just ‘what we need to accomplish to survive’. Achieving life goals may start with goal setting.
Identifying one’s goals in life is highly essential as it may serve as one’s guide or direction towards
what a person wants to happen in his or her life. Now, why do we need to set goals in life? Well, a lot
of us in this world are dreamers. That being said, we dream for things that make us happy as well as the
things we love in life. Setting goals is very beneficial, here are some reasons behind it:
* Setting goals can clarify our behaviour
* Goals allow for feedback
* Goal-setting promotes happiness
* They encourage us to use our strengths
Goal setting therefore provides focus, helps people identify and evade distractions, and brings
them back to the right track when they are lost.
3. Education
What course do you want to take? What specific knowledge, skill, aptitude, or competency do
you what to acquire? What other trainings you need to have to achieve your goals?
Career Development

Career development is the lifelong process of managing learning, work, leisure, and transitions
in order to move toward a personally determined and evolving preferred future (Wikipedia).
Career development usually comes as a natural thing and may even occur even without the
participation of career experts, counsellors, teachers, mentors, parents, or guardians. Yet, the journey
to a more satisfying and successful career path may come from getting assistance from experts in
managing one’s career development.

With numerous number of options, how will you choose a career that's perfect for you? If you
don't have any idea what you want to do, the task may seem insurmountable. The following are some
personal factors that must be highly considered in choosing a career and setting life goals as they could
be determinant of success or failure of a person in his or her chosen career:
Personality/Character
We are all different. We have different tastes, preferences, and tempers. And someone’s success
at the particular job position depends on these things. There is a special theory which is called Holland
Occupational Themes which can answer how the personality of the work =seeker influence on his
choice, his work ambitions and abilities. (essay4today.com)
Personality refers to the combination of traits, characteristics, or qualities that form a person’s
distinct character. The personality type of an individual plays a vital role in choosing a career or even
life goals as the kind of profession or vocation a person wishes to have must be compatible or fitting to
his or her character.
There are careers that require specific types of personality. In sales and marketing, one should
be outgoing and friendly. In the medical field, alertness and accuracy are needed. A person, thus, needs
to consider his or her type of personality in making a sensible career plan.
There are specific jobs that require particular physical and mental capacities. To work on
airlines has height requirements. Entering the field of engineering requires high level of mathematical
proficiency. It is, thus, essential to find an occupation that matches one’s physical feature and cognitive
abilities.
Skills and Abilities
The potential of a student can be legitimate criterion for choosing a career. Very few are able
to identify their potential and choose their subject of knowledge based on it. A career selected on the
basis of one’s potential has greater prospect of assuring success.
In choosing a career, an individual should take into big consideration his/her skills, general
intelligence, and specific abilities. While these may not fully guarantee that one will succeed in a certain
course, they nonetheless would enable us to have an idea on the probability of at least faring in a
particular field. Example, one who’s poor in language and grammar would find a lot of difficulties
under journalism related courses.
Interests
One’s positive preference and passion towards a certain kind of undertaking is a factor in
becoming successful in that task. Students normally choose a course that they find interesting or
something that they enjoy doing or learning more about. However, our interests might have the tendency
to change from time to time. One must be careful in considering this personal factor.
Life Experiences
The experiences we had in our life may influence the way we choose our careers. The positive
feelings that one acquired in doing a specific task in the past and role models whom he or she met in
the field may determine his or her career choice. If someone has a positive role model in a particular
career or positive work experience it will definitely influence the future work choice. A research has
shown that a person prefers to continue the work in which he was more successful rather than start
doing something new. In fact, it is a great idea to focus on the work with proven success as well as with
positive self-esteem for most of us.
The cultural background of the person as well as his regional area and ethnic group can
influence the future work choice. Besides family of the job seeker and local community also can become
the factors which can determine someone’s future career. Person’s expectations and life values are
always shaped according to the cultural issues, and they have connections with different parts of our
lives. Understanding of the nature of our expectations and values can help us to understand our
personality and make a right career choice.

Along with pragmatic factors, there are issues which can influence someone’s future work
choice. And they lie in the non-material plane. It’s important to choose the career which will bring
pleasure. Find your career passion and the work will always be a joy. You have to choose something
passionately for you. Find out what can inspire you and follow your inspiration. Answer the simple
question “do you really want this career?” If you are confused with your choice, just take a break and
clarify your thoughts.
You have to make a decision what purposes do you have right now. And what do you want to get
from your work? What are the reasons in favor of some particular career? Do you want to earn money
or you want to develop your talents? It’s great if you have an opportunity to choose the career which is
related to your hobby or interests.
So choosing the future career is perhaps the most important decision in our lives.
LIFE GOAL
Note: This is just a suggested format. You may tweek it and make your own design. You can
have more than 3 specific goals as well ☺
