Exercise 2.1
Exercise 2.1
Bantayan HISTORY 11
(EXERCISE 2.1)
1. What is the primary reason of the author in writing the document? How was it
produced?
The main theme in the document is to reveal nothing but the truth, the whole real
journey of their expedition. He will get nothing if he will lie about the information he
shared. The data gathered in his journal are now used as one of the primary source of the
Philippine history. The story of the Magellan’s expedition was also taught in school as part
of the Philippine histories. The Magellan voyage shared to us their struggles, sacrifices
and hardships to achieve the success during their journey on discovering the route. This
chronicle serves as the lens through which the voyage and circumnavigation of the world
can be apprehended with certainty. Be wishful to learn about the world.
The first voyage made significant contributions to discovering and proving European
assumptions about the Earth. They initially thought the Earth was flat, but the voyage
proved that it was, in fact, a sphere and established the first route to the east by sailing
westward. It also allowed Europeans to have contact with other parts of the world,
allowing them to explore and learn about other cultures from around the world. The voyage
contributed to Europeans' understanding of the universe and has left an indelible mark on
the worlds of space exploration and astronomy to this day. It paved the way in the areas
where they passed, allowing people, ideas, and goods to come and go. It also helped formed
economic links between the East and the West that lasted for centuries.
4. What light does it shed on people, their politics and economy, religious and cultural
practices? Analyze the text.
5. What are your personal evaluation on the impact of the document in the
understanding of the 16th century people and their culture on the island?
The 16th century people influenced us a lot that until now, we have some traditions
and customs that are following. The successful colonization of Spain in the Philippines
changed the way people lived. In fact, the Spaniards brought to the Filipinos their own set
of beliefs as well as their habits, language, clothes, entertainment practices including
sports, religion, arts and even cooking. These modern cultures have now been known with
purpose and impact as Filipino although colonial. Cultural respect means understanding the
values and beliefs of a population in order to respond to and meet the needs of diverse
patients.
