WEEKLY REPORT 1

1. PLACE
Shreyas, Research and Training Centre Sulthan Bethery, Wayanad.

3. TIME
9.30 AM to 5.30 PM

4. INTRODUCTION
Field work is considered to be an integral part of social work education. This helps to
develop problem solving skill, self-awareness and communication skill. The main aim of
social work education is helps people and more effectively with their problem. Field work
programme provides an opportunity to students to apply their theoretical knowledge taught
in the class room appropriately in different practical situations.

5. ACTIVITIES PLANNED
• To attend orientation class
• To know about pulpally unit
• To visit the colony number 73
• To take case study
• To attend an orientation class about child cooperatives
• To visit kaipancherry tribal colony
• To give an awareness class about mobile use for child
• To attend training programme about democratic empowerment of right holders.

6. ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT


On the 5th day of field work the social work trainee is reported at the agency by 9.30 AM.
On the day trainee attend an orientation class about field work. Firstly, the director of
Shreyas Fr Benny and other coordinator came into the conference hall and give an
introduction about the field work. In a week there are 3 days of field work are arranged.
The days are Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The major area of working is Pulpally, Sulthan
Bathery and Chetapaalam. After the session Mrs. Tressa take an orientation class about
Child Cooperative Unit. The main objectives of child cooperative units are promoting
democratic values, decision making and leadership in child. After 7.00pm Fr Benny give
an instruction about field work through online meeting then he introduce the staffs in each
unit.
On the 6th day of field work trainee visit the pulpally unit in Shreyas. Firstly, the
project officer Mr Shaji K P divided the trainees into three groups. By 9.40am trainee go
to the pulpally unit. Trainee met the community development officer Mrs. Jini. She gives
an introduction about the activities of pulpally unit. The working time of the unit is 9.30
am to 5.00pm. There are 2 CEOs are working at pulpally unit. The total self-help groups
are 40. 30 are women and 10 are men. At present two balasabha are under this unit including
one tribal unit. The unit director is the head of of the pulpally unit under the director there
are 11 committee members conduct meetings on every month. In these unit one Save a
Family project is working. In these unit 6 families are under Ashakiranam project. During
the fourth week unit evaluation is conducted among 40 SHGs. There will be an auditing in
the month of March – September. They will be provided interest rate in the month of march.
After the lunch social work trainee visited tribal colony no 73. Social work trainee met the
children of balasabha. Around 20 children present their social work trainee interacted with
the children. Social work trainee asks their name standard etc. Social work trainee leaves
the place at 4.00 and reported the agency at 5.30 pm.
On the 7th day of field work trainee assigned for taking case study in pulpally. This
case study is the under of sparsh project. This project is focus on the development of
disabled person. The client is a 14 years old girl child. The child has cerebral palsy. Trainee
visit house and met the mother of the child. Trainee give lactogen given by Shreyas. After
that trainee take case study. From the case study trainee understand that Shreyas play an
important role in this child’s development. Before Covid, the child gets physiotherapy
from Shreyas. At that time, the child was very happy and did not show any discomfort and
fatigue. The physiotherapy helps the child a lot. Every month parents' meeting was going
on in Shreyas. The parents of the child would attend the meetings. The child gets required
lactogen from Shreyas. Social work trainee leaves the place at 4.00 and reported the agency
at 5.30 pm. After that trainee submit the case study to project officer Mr. Shaji K P.
The 8th day of field work the social work trainee is reported at the agency by 9.30
AM. On the day trainee attend an orientation class about child cooperatives. The class were
taken by Mrs. Tressa. She gave a brief introduction about the activities of child
cooperatives. The main objectives of child cooperative units are promoting democratic
values, decision making and leadership in child. The main area of activity is nature
conservation, personal development, charity, counselling, Health education and sports etc.
In the area of Shreyas, membership of age is 8 to 18. Child Development Kasana (CDK)
and Child Health and Sports Education are the sub division of child cooperative unit. After
session trainee clarify their doubts about child cooperatives.
The 9th day of field work the social work trainee is reported at the agency by 9.30
AM. On the day trainee visit the kaipancherry unit in Shreyas. Trainee met the community
development officers Mrs. Lilly and Mrs. Lissy. They gave a brief introduction about
bathery unit their activities. Then trainee go to tribal colony for meeting tribal children.
Trainee take a session for children about mobile uses. Trainee explained the advantages
disadvantages and preventions about mobile uses. The children are very attentive to the
trainees. That was an interaction session and trainee identify that some students using
mobile phones for online games. After that trainee arrange a recreational activity for the
children. They danced, sing songs and folk songs etc. The children are very interested to
do recreational activities. Social work trainee leaves the place at 5.00 and reported the
agency at 5.30 pm
The 10th day of field work social work trainee assigned for attending training
programme about democratic empowerment of right holders. Trainee visit kaipancerry 22
division. The training proramme organized by Shreyas and Sida. This training programme
is focused on the development of democratic value, human rights, fundamental rights
duties, 3 tier system, ward Sabha, municipality etc.…The programme starts with prayer,
welcome speech by Mrs. Annamma Abraham and presidential address by Bathery Unit CO
Lissy Lopes. After that the training programme taken by area coordinator Mr. Shanson. It
was an interacting session. There is 21 members are attending the training programme. On
the class he said that as a people, we need to understand our rights, and how we can achieve
that. After that, trainee divided the members into two groups and discussed about problem
faced by kaipancerry its causes and solution to the problem. There are many problems
addressed by the members. Some problems are waste management, street lights, palliative
care services and agriculture etc. The training program ended at 1 pm. Social work trainee
leave the place at 3.pm and reported the agency by 4pm. After that trainee gave detailed
report to the agency.

7. OBSERVATION
On the second week of field work trainee observe that the Shreyas is working several areas
for development. Under the Shreyas there are 11 areas are seen. The unit is the subdivision
of area. There are many Self-Help Groups working under the units. The units are providing
many loans, installments and funds etc. People’s Bank, promoted as a platform for savings
and thrift, has been a major activity of Shreyas in its SHGs and federations. Over the years
we have refined the people’s banking system and made it more effective by promoting
project-oriented savings. Special emphasis is given on this activity with a vision of ensuring
economic stability of the partners. They focus on the development of people in grass root
level.
Social work trainee observed that the inmates of the agency is very helping. The time of
visiting units the Community development officers are cooperative with social work
trainee. They are working with groups in an empathetical feeling. In a group they
consider CO is a part of their family member because they understand feelings of
each member.
As a social work trainee observed that, they work several fields of the agency. Trainee work
with individual, group and community. Trainee take case study and group activities in this
week. Trainee able to develop recording skills.

8. ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION


As social work trainee analysis the second week of field work, In Shreyas we consider
people’s organization as the most important grassroots level structure where all the
developmental initiatives start. In this week trainee worked several fields with Shreyas.
From the field work trainee understand different units of Shreyas. In total it was a well
developing NGO and very helpful to the people. The welfare of the people is most
important aim in here. Trainee get knowledge about units and its functions. Also know
about several projects for poor e.g., SAFP, SPARSH, MITRAM, ASHAKIRANAM etc.
The staffs are very cooperative with trainees. They get proper training for their fields. The
inmates are very hard working. They maintain proper communication with trainees
9. SUGGESTION
On orientation class trainee observed that they wait for them for a long time because they
have to be punctual when take classes. On visiting 73 tribal colony trainees see that some
peoples are do not wear masks. Trainee have a suggestion that authorities should give
awareness to the tribal people about covid and its protocol. On taking case study trainee
have suggestion that child gets more care for betterment. Before covid period the child gets
physiotherapy, it helps the child a lot. During the period they do not get physiotherapy. If
any chance please continue physiotherapy. On attending orientation class, trainee
understand that there are 31 groups in this unit. In the case of covid, the work of many of
these groups is not going well now. As a social work trainee have suggestion that tribals
are the vulnerable groups in our society. The authorities more focus on the health and
hygiene of tribals.

10. PROFESSIONAL LEARNING


Social work trainee can apply the theoretical knowledge into practical. Firstly, trainee get
an experience in taking case study. The format given by the Shreyas NGO. It was a first
experience of trainee taking case study. Second thing is trainee develop their skill in
teaching trough taking awareness class to the children about mobile use. Then. On visiting
kaipancherry colony trainee develop their rapport building through interaction. Trainee
develop their recording skill in case study and training programme. Also, trainee use
principles of non-judge metal attitude, purposeful expression of feelings in taking case
study. Trainee develop communication skills and observation skill.

11. CONCLUSION
The social work trainees successfully completed the second week of fieldwork in Shreyas.
Trainee apply the theoretical knowledge into practical. Trainee understand the projects and
programmes implemented by Shreyas. Trainee understand the values of Shreyas trough
case study, group interactions, field visits etc. Shreyas play a vital role in the development
of wayand.
