There are five main categories of exercise namely: Aerobic, Balance Training,
Endurance, Flexibility, and Strength Building. All of these exercises help us in achieving
and maintaining our fitness and well-being in certain ways. Activities such as walking,
jogging, aerobic dancing etc. fall under the category of aerobic. You can improve your
balance in doing cycling. Exercises where your cardiovascular plays a major role is
considered to be under Endurance. This exercise includes running, biking, and swimming.
When you want to improve your joints to move freely and in unrestricted motion without
series of pain, you can participate in flexibility exercise. Push up, Plank, Sit-ups, and
bodyweight squats improve our strength and muscle endurance.
All of the mentioned exercise programs benefit our physical body and even our
mental health. It keeps us moving and helping our bodily systems in regulating certain
tasks. In doing exercises, we can control our weight. When we are physically active, we
also avoid certain health problems such as Stroke, Arthritis, Metabolic Illnesses etc. It also
improves our moods and boosts our energy. Exercising is also proven to better our sleep.
Some forms of exercises improve our social health as well.
Every task requires preparation. It is essential for us to prepare our body before
doing rigorous or even moderate exercises. It helps us avoid muscle pain and it conditions
our body. When we do some stretching of our joints and move some of our muscles, we
call this part ‘Warm Up’ this is the first part of workout. Meanwhile, it is called Stimulus
also known as ‘conditioning’ which is considered to be the main part of workout. In this
phase, you actually do your exercise such as swimming, running or even just playing
basketball. It is also important for us to relax our body after some rigorous activities. It
helps us adjust our body condition like bringing our heart rate and blood pressure back to
normal. In this stage, we ‘Cool Down’ our body which is also the last part of workout.
It requires strong self-discipline in maintaining our physical fitness. There are
seven principles of fitness training that can help us to keep making our body and mind
healthy. Progression refers to gradually increase the intensity and duration of our exercise.
Whereas Regularity pertains to the consistency of our workout fitness. When we exercise,
it is our goal to exceed the normal demands we place on our bodies, and when we do this
we actually ‘Overload’ our body which is also one of the seven principles of fitness training.
It is important for us to try on different forms of exercise so we can ‘Variety’. As I have
mentioned, our bodies also need to have some rest or ‘Recovery’ after doing exercises
and workouts. Balance is important in every aspect of tasks. We should make sure that
we are not overworking certain parts of our body while underworking the others to avoid
further health problems and to achieve successful training fitness. Lastly, we should know
what is the best routine and series of exercise that we need to do to achieve ‘Specific’
goals whether to lose weight, to run faster, or to just be physically healthy and have a
sound mind and soul.
