CONURBATION
The conurbation is made up of two words con + urban means continuous
urbanization. A city area containing a large number of people, formed by various towns grow ing and joining together. A large area including several different cities or large towns that have all grown so much that they are now connected to each other. A conurbation is a region comprising a number of metropolises, cities, large towns, and other urban areas that, through population growth and physical expansion, have merged to form one continuous urban or industrially developed area. In most cases, a conurbation is a polycentric urbanised area, in which transportation has developed to link areas to create a single urban labour market or travel to work area. A large area occupied by urban development, which may contain isolated rural areas, and formed by the merging together of expanding towns that formerly were separate. An extensive urban settlement that is formed when two or more cities, which were originally separate, grow together to form a continuous metropolitan region or megalopolis. One example of a conurbation is the expansive concept of the New York metropolitan area (the Tri-state region) cantered on New York City, including 30 counties spread among New York State, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
