Directions: Consider the following scenarios in the illustrations. Answer the


questions below each illustration. Write your answer in the space provided.

1. List 2 unsafe activities depicted in this illustration and explain how they
should be altered to make them safe.

Answer:
Jodi is not wearing any protective materials like apron, gloves and goggles and
also, Jodi’s hair is not tied. To prevent all of this you must follow the protective
clothing rules.

2. What piece of safety equipment should be used to put out the fire?
Answer:
The Emergency Fire Blanket, it should be used to extinguish fires on people.

1. How should Rick correct his technique?


Answer:
Rick needs to wear gloves before handling the jar and when it comes to smell
the jar rick is correct, do not direct it to the nose.

2. Are these students behaving appropriately? If not, what should they be doing
differently?
Answer:
No, they are not behaving appropriately because first of all they are not wearing
any protective clothing like apron, Rick and Andrew are not wearing gloves,
Sarah and Andrew are not wearing goggles. Andrew should not drink the
chemicals it is not acceptable in Lab behaviors, because it is dangerous to eat
and drink something which came from the Laboratory. Sarah must not be mixed
those two unlabeled chemicals, because it is dangerous too.

1. Compare Evelyn’s technique with Kwan’s technique.


Answer:
Evelyn’s is using drops, while Kwan’s is using their mouth or they are drinking
the chemical.

2. Whose technique is the correct one?


Answer:
Evelyn’s techniques is correct, because they are following the safety rules in Lab,
while Kwan’s did the wrong thing, although they are using protecting materials
but what is wrong to them is they drink the chemical which is dangerous.

Answer:
 They are playing inside the lab
 There is a food on the table which is not allowed inside the lab.
 They are not wearing protective equipment.

2. Explain alternate procedures for each activity you identify.


Answer:
For all the activity that I identify they must need to follow all the Laboratory
rules.

1. Describe Jarvis’ error. Who in this scenario is performing a correct


procedure?
Answer:
Jarvis used his hand to pick up broken glass, instead of picking up a broom and
dustpan for grabbing liked Meredith. And also, the broken glass should put on
the glass bin not in the waste bin.

2. Identify 2 unsafe activities shown here.


Answer:
Applying make-up should not be done inside of the Laboratory like Penny does.
And also, Meredith is wearing a slippers which is not allowed in the Lab.

1. What is unsafe about Ernie’s behavior?


Answer:
Ernie is taking home the Lab materials without any reasons and permissions.

2. Why is Lydia’s behavior appropriate? Why is it important in a laboratory


setting?
Answer:
Because Lydia is following the Lab rules which is she make sure that her
glassware is clean before she used or before she leaves it. It is important to
imitate Lydia’s movements, because it shows compliance with Laboratory rules.
