Writers Block

The writer has been struggling with writer's block and coming up with an idea for a new book that will bring him fame and fortune. One night he wakes up believing he has come up with the perfect idea, but is unable to remember it the next morning. His wife suggests he keep a notepad by the bed to write down any nighttime ideas. The next night he wakes and writes something down. However, when he reads it the next day, the idea is simply "boy meets girl", disappointing and angering him as it is not the breakthrough idea he had hoped for.

FADE IN

INT. WRITERS ROOM – DAY

WRITER, a middle-aged writer who has made an average living
from the many books he has written but no very successful
ones, he knows what he is doing but has not yet had “the idea”
that will earn him fame and fortune
He is sitting at his desk with a pad and pen next to him
filled with ideas written down then crossed out immediately
after
in front of him the computer screen shows a blank document
that he had hoped he would fill with ideas but was
unsuccessful, there is always later
He taps his pen on the table impatiently waiting for himself
to get on with it, to write
He has clearly been sitting here for a while, he has an empty
coffee mug next to him and a dirty plate that had some toast
on it but now just contains crumbs
He glances up at the clock it says 2:57
WRITER
(muttering)
Come on, come on, come on

He looks back at the computer
