GUIDELINES FOR USERS

* Rates have been prepared using market prices of materials in North Central Province and
Anuradhapura District Buying Committee Rates.

General Specifications :-

* The Particular Specification shall be read in conjunction with the General Specification where
applicable. In the event the Particular Specification is in conflict with the General
Specification, the Particular Specification shall be prevail.

* Particular Specifications for each category are mentioned above. Full description and relevant
notes mentioned above for each category in the rate book should be given for each item when
preparing estimates.

* In the specifications, if any materials/fittings are described by using a trade name, it is only for
the purpose of indicating the minimum level of quality and standard required. It may be used
any other material/ fitting, which are considered as equivalent in quality and standard to those
specified therein subject to the approval of the Engineer.

* Rates can be used as guidance and adjustment could be made to suit the specific site
conditions subjected to approval.

* Overhead and profit applied is 20%.

* Transport, loading, unloading and material wastage also included the rates.

* Prices used are exclusive of VAT.

Instructions
(a) Testing for workability and strength of concrete should be done from Quality Control lab,

(b) Cement used should be SLS certified products approved for concrete.

E - FORMWORK

Rates for formwork shall include for:


(a) All framing, propping, bracing, cutting angles, bolting, wedging, cleaning, wetting and
treating before pouring concrete.
(b) Erecting, Striking off and cleaning of formwork.
(c) Rubbing down, filling and making good the surface of concrete after removal of formwork.
(d) All the formwork for slabs should be done in such a way that it is good enough to apply a
layer of skim coat or suitable pillar and painting, without soffit plastering.

F- REINFORCEMENT

Rates for Reinforcement shall include for:


(a) Rolling margin and waste.
(b) Bending, Cutting, Fabricating, Hoisting, and placing in position.
(c) Holding and supporting including temporary fixing supports, hangers.
(d) Cleaning and wire brushing.
(e) All spacing, laps etc. in reinforced steel other than design laps.
(f) Tensile strength of Tor Steel should be not less than 460 N/mm2 and Mild Steel should be not
less than 250 N/mm2
Instructions
(a) Inevitable laps should be measured.
(b) Unless otherwise specified laps to be 52 times the diameter of the bar.
(c) Preparation, supplying & binding of cover blocks such that specified cover is maintained at
outer-most rod.
(d) Should be used GTB or Lanwa. If another brands are used, It should be checked from
Quality Control lab at Kekirawa with Contractor's Expence.

(e) Some trade names are used only for the purpose of indicating the minimum level of quality
and standards.

(g) Preparing sample panel of different finishes described below for the approval of the Engineer.
Each panel not less than 0.5 m2 in area.
(h) Cement used should be SLS Certified Products for masonry work.
