A Narrative Report On Vermicomposting An

The document discusses two income generating projects undertaken by CAGASAT National High School: 1) A vermicomposting project to convert bio-degradable materials into organic fertilizer using earthworms. This project generated income to improve the school garden and taught students technical skills. 2) A tree planting activity to help mitigate climate change involving planting 60 mahogany seedlings. The tree planting raised awareness of climate change impacts in the community and the importance of trees in absorbing carbon dioxide.

A Narrative Report on

Vermicomposting – an Income Generating Project

of CAGASAT National High School-Main-Senior High School Department

Nowadays, organic farming is gaining recognition to health-conscious individuals and groups

because of their assumption that agricultural products produced through the use of synthetic fertilizers
and pesticides are among the causes of various diseases. Anent to this, while organic farming was
conceived to be the best alternative production method for a healthier life, the use of organic fertilizer is
indispensable. And one of this organic fertilizer is the vermicompost, it is the product of the composting
process of converting bio-degradable materials into compost or organic fertilizer with the aid of
earthworm (African Night Crawler).
The project aims to establish a small scale vermi composting project which will serve as avenue
to develop technical and entrepreneurial capabilities of students. Specifically, it sought to generate
income to be used as fund for the improvement of Gulayan sa Paaralan. The project was a showroom for
production technology among students and the CAGASAT National High School-Main was the pilot
school in the utilization of market and agricultural waste for income generation.
The management and technical considerations in vermicomposting do not require sophisticated
technology. Its just a matter of following the desired procedure recommended by experts plus personal
knowledge and interest shall ensure the success of the endeavor. The following are the steps in
vermicompost production: Preparation of vermi beds, gathering and preparation of composting
materials, stocking the vermi worms, care of the vermi beds and harvesting the vermi compost.
Since the production of vermi compost is still very limited, the immediate outlet of products was
among the faculty and staff, students and the locality.
A Narrative Report on Tree Planting

The earth has many changes that have occurred in the past and some that are going to transpire
in the future. "Climate Change" has become the trendier term among researchers and policy makers.
While the globe is becoming hotter on average, this temperature increase can have paradoxical effects,
Scientists agree that the earth’s rising temperatures are fueling longer and hotter heat waves, more
frequent droughts, heavier rainfall, and more powerful hurricanes. But the real question now is how we
can solve climate change? So, yes, the Earth will heal itself, but not in time for our cultural institutions to
be preserved as they are. Therefore, in our own self-interests, we must act in one way or another to
deal with the changes in climate we are causing.
The CAGASAT National High School faculty and staff headed by our passionate and dedicated
Principal III, Madam Sally J. Florentin, together with the support of the school general PTA officers and
the barangay officials of barangay Gayong, conducted a Tree planting activity to help mitigate the effects
of climate change.
Tree planting is the process of transplanting tree seedlings, generally for forestry, land
reclamation, or landscaping purposes. The tree planting activity is not just a simple tree planting, but it is
an awareness campaign of the effects of climate change in the community. As a start, we planted almost
60 seedlings of Mahogany trees at the agricultural farm lot of the school located at Purok-7 Gayong,
Cordon, Isabela.
Planting trees is very essential because it is considered to be the lungs of the earth since it
collects carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and provides the fresh air we breathe.
