A. Introduction
 Greetings

Good morning class. Good morning Ma’am.

 Prayer

Let us pray first. May I ask your ( One student will lead the prayer)
classroom president to lead the
prayer?

 Classroom management

 Cleanliness

Before you take your seats, kindly ( Students pick up the pieces of paper and

arrange the alignment of your chair

 Checking of attendance

Now, let us check the attendance. I’m glad to report that no one is absent in our
May I ask your class secretary who are class.
the absentees today?
It’s nice to hear that everybody is
present.

Thank you Ms. Secretary.

 Motivation
Yes Ma’am!
So how’s your day? Is it good so far?

That’s good to know. Last time we

already discuss about volcano how it forms and
its composition now before we start our
discussion I ask you a question. Have you seen a
fountain class?
Yes Ma’am!

Great what kind of fountain you commonly

see? Chocolate fountain!
Water fountain in the park!
Fireworks fountain!

Okay very well said everyone. Now paid attention

to the picture that I’m holding, it’s a water fountain
pretty right!
Yes ma’am.

Can anyone from the class give a brief

description about this fountain?

What else. Ma’am it’s beautiful specially the water that flows
upward.

Its look so pretty big ma’am.

Now can you think any land form that mostly

similar to the appearance of a fountain?
( class scream in chorus)

Volcano ma’am!

Very good! They mostly look similar especially

when a volcano are about to erupt or its active
cause there’s lava that rising on the crater of the
volcano.

Now what is volcano?

Volcano is an opening in the earth's crust through
which lava, volcanic ash, and gases escape.

Name a volcano found in the Philippines?

Mayon volcano ma’am.

Mt. Mayon are located in Albay, what else class?

Taal Volcano in Batangas ma’am.

Okay before we start our activity for today I have

here a three picture of types of volcano as you
can see, they are different from each other. The
first picture is a Composite type of volcano based
on the picture can anyone define what is
composite volcano.

Ma’am based on the appearance of composite

volcano in the picture it looks so tall and its shape
like an ice cream cone.

Thank you. Composite volcano are also as

known as stratovolcano it is steep- sided and
symmetrical that’s why its look like ice cream
cone steep means matarik the height of a
composite volcano is about 8000 feet or 2500
meters one of the example of composite volcano
found in the Philippine is the Mt. Mayon
composite volcano are built due to the alternating
layer of lava flows
volcanic ash, cinders, blocks, and bombs and
may rise as much as 8,000 feet above their
bases. Now let’s proceed to the next picture the
next type of volcano is shield volcano.

Anyone from the class?

Ma’am base from the picture the appearance of

shield volcano is broader compare to the
composite that looks like a perfect cone due to
that they look shorter compare to the composite
volcano.

Okay! Thank you.

Shield volcanoes are broad, gently sloping, large
aerial extent. Made up of hot, low-viscosity,
basaltic lava. Can form as ocean islands
(hotspots) or at rift zones within continents.
Shield volcano are known as resembled in
warrior’s lying on the ground because of its
formation. It is formed by the eruption of highly
fluid lava, which travels farther and forms thinner
flows than the more viscous lava erupted from a
stratovolcano. An example of shield volcano here
in the Philippines is the Mt. Biliran shield volcano
are usually around 1500 to 2000 meters in height.

Now let’s proceed to the last picture which is the

cinder cones type of volcano. Anyone from the
class?
Thank you. The last type of volcano is the cinder Ma’am the crater of cinder cone volcano looks
cones like what he said the crater of cinder cones like a bowl shaped its look like a funnel.
looks like a bowl shaped and if you will look the
overall appearance of a cinder cones, they look
similar to a funnel. Cinder cones are the simplest
type of volcano. They are built from particles and
blobs of congealed lava ejected from a single
vent. As the gas-charged lava is blown violently
into the air, it breaks into small fragments that
solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form
a circular or oval cone. Most cinder cones have a
bowl-shaped crater at the summit and rarely rise
more than a thousand feet or so above their
surroundings. An example of cinder cones here in
the Philippines is Smith Volcano also as Mt.
Babuyan. These three types of volcanoes can
easily differentiate through to their appearance
and formations.

B. Activity

To further understand our topic for today,

let us have an activity.

This will be the mechanic.

Now, Your class will be divided into four

groups by counting 1-4.

Each group will receive an envelope containing

your task.

What you’re going to do is to first have a

brainstorming about the topic that is assigned to
your group.

Is there any clarification?

(Student will answer in chorus with teacher)

Good. You may now proceed to your respective

group.

Group 1 (Representative of group one will present their

- Draw a composite type of volcano answer)
- Label a brief description about the type of
volcano assigned to your group
- List at least 3 composite volcanoes found in
the Philippines

Group 2 (Representative of group two will present their

- Draw a shield type of volcano answer)
- Label a brief description about the type of
volcano assigned to your group
- List at least 3 types of shield volcanoes found
in the Philippines

(Representative of group three will present their

Group 3 answer)
- Draw a cinder cones type of volcano
- Label a brief description about the type of
volcano assigned to your group
- List at least 3 types of cinder cones
volcanoes found in the Philippines.

Group 4 (Representative of group four will present their

- Make a concept map that differentiate the answer)
three types of volcanoes.

C. Analysis

I’m so glad that you were able to finish the

task. Now let’s start to see he presentation of
each group start with group one please come in
front to show your presentation. Ma’am the type of volcano that assigned to our
group is the composite volcano here in the board
is a drawing of a composite volcano. Composite
volcano are also known as strato volcano its
around 8000 feet to 2500 meters. The shaped of
composite volcano are similar to ice cream cone
it is a steep sided and symmetrical the 3 types of
composite volcano that found in the Philippines
are Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales Mt. Bulusan in
Sorsogon and Mt. Knalaon in Negros and that’s
all for group one ma’am.

Very good! Thank you group one now let’s

precedes to group two. Ma’am in group two we have here the shield
volcano. Shield volcano is are broad, gently
sloping, large aerial extent. Shield volcano are
known as resembled in warrior’s lying on the
ground because of its formation. It is formed by
the eruption of highly fluid lava, which travels
farther and forms thinner flows than the more
viscous lava erupted from a stratovolcano. The
three shield volcano found here in the Philipines
are MT. Biliran Mt. Iraya and Mt. Mareveles that’s
all ma’am thank you.

Thank you, group two now let’s have the group

three. Ma’am in group three we have the cinder cone
type of volcano. They are built from particles and
blobs of congealed lava ejected from a single
vent. As the gas-charged lava is blown violently
into the air, it breaks into small fragments that
solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form
a circular or oval cone. Most cinder cones have a
bowl-shaped crater at the summit and rarely rise
more than a thousand feet or so above their
surroundings. The three cinder cone volcano
found here in the Philippines are Taal volcano Mt.
Mayabobo and Musuan volcano that’s all ma’am
thank you.

Thank you, group three not the last group.

Ma’am in Group four we assigned to make a
concept map to differentiate the three type of
volcano now first lets define what is Composite
volcano.
Composite volcanoes, sometimes known as
strato volcanoes, are steep sided cones formed
from layers of ash and [lava] flows. The eruptions
from these volcanoes may be a pyroclastic flow
rather than a flow of lava. A pyroclastic flow is a
superheated mixture of hot steam, ash, rock and
dust. A pyroclastic flow can travel down the side
of a volcano at very high speeds with
temperatures over 400 degrees celsius.
Composite volcanoes can rise over 8000 feet,
while the Shield volcanoes are low with gently
sloping sides and are formed from layers of lava.
Eruptions are typically non-explosive. Shield
volcanoes produce fast flowing fluid [lava] that
can flow for many miles. Eruptions tend to be
frequent but relatively gentle. Although these
eruptions destroy property, death or injury to
humans rarely occurs. The last will be the cinder
cone volcano Cinder cones are the simplest type
of volcano. They are built from particles and
blobs of congealed lava ejected from a single
vent. As the gas-charged lava is blown violently
into the air, it breaks into small fragments that
solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form
a circular or oval cone. Most cinder cones have a
bowl-shaped crater at the summit and rarely rise
more than a thousand feet or so above their
surroundings. Cinder cones are numerous in
western North America as well as throughout
other volcanic terrains of the world, that’s all
ma’am thank you.

Thank you, Group four please give a round of

applause to all groups.

D. Abstraction

Although volcanologist have different basis for

classifying volcanoes, one way to classify them is
by their cones. Composite volcano is formed from
alternate solidification of both lava and pyroclastic
flow. Cinder volcano is characterized by narrow
base and steep slope. Shield volcano is formed
by accumulation of lava resulting in a broad
slightly domed structure. But guys we still have (the student will answer in chorus ) “like a shield
the last type of volcano it is called Lava dome it is of a warrior”.
not actual type of volcano cause its form during
volcanic eruptions in which highly viscous magma
accumulates in the near-vent region. During this
activity, gas pressure build up in the lava dome or
shallow conduit region can destabilize the
structure and trigger transitions to explosive
eruptions or lava dome collapse.

Application

Now can you give me a positive and

negative effect of volcanoes in human life.
Ma’am one of the negative effect of volcano in
human life are during those time when the
volcano erupt the ash fall can affect the health a
person ma’am

That’s right one of the first negative effect of

volcano to us is concerning into our health
infectious disease, respiratory illness, burns,
injuries from falls, and vehicle accidents related
to the slippery, hazy conditions caused by ash
during ash fall may result to this health concern.

Okay another class.

Ma’am another one is they can kill people and
damage property and services.

That’s right what more? Ma’am economic activity can suffer as it is hard
for businesses to operate and recover after an
eruption.
That right okay last one

Natural habitats are disrupted and animals and

plants are destroyed.

Very good, everyone those negative effect you’ve

mention are the one we experience during
volcanic eruption now let’s precede to the positive
effects of volcano to human life.

Ma’am volcanoes serve as tourist attractions,

bringing in money for the local economy.

Yeah that’s right one of the famous Volcano here

in the Philippines as a tourist spot is the Mayon
volcano in Albay, another?
Ma’am volcanic ash acts as a natural fertilizer for
the soil, which is good for growing crops.
That’s right aside from volcano as tourist spot ash
also acts as a fertilizer that helps those people
that grow crops okay one more
Ma’am geothermal energy can be generated in
places where the crust is thinner and so volcanic
areas can be used to harness renewable energy.

Very well said everything you’ve mention are the

positive effect that helps human life.

Is everything clear to all of you those types of

volcano?

Yes ma’am
Okay now get ¼ sheet of paper for a short
quiz.

E. Assessment
