1. What do you know about Ferdinand Marcos?
Marcos’s regime was the worst regime that ever existed because it’s full of
darkness and brutality among it, people say he builds a lot of buildings and use
his own money there, but it will not be validated since it’s taxpayers’ money
and the total of buildings will not be a solution on how many innocent people
and human rights protector he killed, arrested, and tortured. And, after he led
the country for many years it led the Philippines to extreme debt, many
people are suffering poverty and many people become unemployment.
Before, when I heard about Martial Law I think about discipline on it but as I
read books, journals and article it turns out that it was implemented because it
increasingly violent student demonstrations, the alleged threats of communist
insurgency by the new Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), and the Muslim
separatist movement of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), but what
happened about it is, is that innocent people were killed, many people who fighting
their rights are killed, jailed and tortured; and, what’s the worst part of it is that
farmers are prone to tagged as part of communism. Also, during this time people who
are questioning about Marcos and his family are being abducted, killed etc.
Additionally, during martial law the authorities were brutal killing people who fight
for their rights as orders of Marcos and also about the curfew according to the article
that I read if a person labag a curfew he/she will be summarily arrested.
4. Why are there people who post Facebook statuses that are nostalgic about
Martial Law?
I think it’s because these types of people are sharing their traumatic experience
during that era and, they want to share some information’s that they experience
during this era. It’s kind of thing that saddens me the most that there are many
innocent people and human rights protector who experience being tortured,
killed, arrested, disappear and many more. Additional information I think the
reason why people are posting this martial law on FB it’s because it’s to show
awareness that Martial law should never implemented again because like what I
said it cause chaos and destruction towards people who are fighting their rights
and the inequality among the government and the citizens. And I think for me
based on what I have red and seen on Facebook they want to share about their
experience on having Marcos as their president. There are some people sharing
that because of Marcos the items price become lower, and many people become
poor because of him. I could say that people who are experience martial law era
and still praise Marcos as the best president in the social media are those people
who didn’t experience being punish and accepting themselves being a lapdog
parang this type of people who are still apologist are the people who didn’t suffer
from pain or who's relative doesn’t suffer from dictatorship more like close
minded people who are lazy to do fact check and, also it’s because the son of a
dictator will run for president in 2022.
5. As a new Generation of Filipinos, what can we learn from this period in our
history?
For new generation parents, they should not be one sided because it’s
showing that you are bias and showing loyalty to people even you see that
person doing violence, yet you are blinded by reality in short, we should not
be blinded and showing idolatry. For youth like us we should not be relying
too much on personal experience such as lolo/lola as it shows bias that results
to manipulation furthermore, we should do researching facts, finding reliable
sources in articles and journals, be a keen researcher and analyzing it because
if we are relying too much on personal experience it would be us the one who
will struggle in the future. Also, lastly, I forgot to add it that it’s okay to fight
on our own rights if we find it not right even, we may not experience it and
never forget to vote wisely.
