The document discusses plans to revive the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant in the Philippines to address power shortages. The plant was built in the 1980s but never operated due to safety concerns following the Chernobyl disaster. Supporters argue that nuclear energy could provide reliable electricity without emissions. However, critics note the high costs and challenges of disposing radioactive waste. The document concludes that reviving the plant may help with power issues, but citizens need to be well informed of risks and benefits given the plant's controversial history.

Introduction (Daslee): Hello everyone, and this is about the law from
reviving a Bataan Nuclear Power Plant. The Bataan Nuclear Power
Plant has been one of the most controversial construction projects in
Philippine history, and plans for it to run have been revived.

Sean (Second slide): The Purpose of it is to address its power shortage

from the country and change people lives by giving a reliable electricity.

Kervi (About Bataan Nuclear Power Plant: 3rd Slide): Nuclear Power
Plant produce from Nuclear reaction that produced uranium and
plutonium. Nuclear Powerplant will be the future especially it creates
more power without gas-emissions. Bataan Nuclear Power Plant in the
Philippines was built by former dictator Ferdinand Marcos as a solution
to what was then an impending oil crisis. It cost more than $2 billion, was
completed in 1985, but up to this day, has not generated a single watt of
electricity. It was ready for activation when Marcos was overthrown by a
mass uprising in 1986. But because of Chernobyl nuclear disaster in
Ukraine, Cory Aquino, to shutter the plant.

Daslee (Slide 4): People are having issues with lack of electricity,
because of that they have receive poor electricity and inadequate supplies.
The electric grid is also a problem, insufficient power came in,
the grid wouldn’t be able to support the energy demand from customers
and the other power plants that supply them, causing a cycle of
dysfunction and also, this situation has led not only to inconvenience
among consumers but also to increased electricity cost and economic loss
due to lack of electricity.

Sean (Slide 6, Solving Power Shortages): Switching from renewable

energy sources like Nuclear Energy will help to reduce power shortage,
since Nuclear power releases less radiation into the environment than any
other major energy source also nuclear power plants operate
at much higher capacity factors than renewable energy sources or fossil
fuels. Capacity factor is a measure of what percentage of the time
a power plant actually produces energy and it needed to have a bigger,
more resilient, and smarter grid. In the same way that it took federal
funding and initiative to create the interstate highway system, the grid
will also probably need to be nationalized and its enhancement funded
publicly in order to meet this challenge.
Fred; (Slide 7 in Pros in Nuclear Energy only):
 Low Cost of Operation
The cost to produce electricity from nuclear energy is much lower than
the cost to produce energy from gas, coal, or oil unless those resources
are located near the power plant they supply.
 The stable production of power created by nuclear power plants
means that it can ideally be used in conjunction with other forms of
renewable energy.
 Reliable Source of Energy
It doesn’t matter if the wind isn’t blowing or if the day is cloudy. Nuclear
power plants are essentially unaffected by external climatic factors and
create predictable and steady energy output.
 Sufficient Fuel Availability
However, our uranium reserves are estimated to last another 80 years,
whereas fossil fuels have a much more limited lifespan. Since the
Industrial Revolution, we have been consistently and constantly depleting
our fossil fuel reserves.

Sean (Slide 7 in Cons in Nuclear Energy only):

 Radioactive waste byproduct
It is estimated that a nuclear power plant creates 20 metric tons of
nuclear fuel per year, and with that comes a lot of nuclear waste which
is usually processed and buried in specialized containers in the Earth.
Given the slow rate at which radioactive levels decay, this does not
seem like a sustainable way forward.
Establishing a new nuclear power plant is considerably cost prohibitive
and often requires heavy tax subsidies which fall onto taxpayers. The
high investment needed to build a nuclear reactor means that to make
this a viable investment, the reactor will need to run for several decades
which risks locking a country’s energy supply to one particular energy
source and technology.
Carcinogenic threats to workers and nearby communities.
One of the most serious disadvantages of nuclear power

Kervi (Slide 8):Nuclear is considered as a non-renewable energy but

nuclear itself is renewable. Nuclear energy harvests the powerful
energy in the nucleus, or core, of an atom and it could it also benefit for
people from fixing power shortage, it has lack of pollution produced
when compared with fossil fuel power plants. There is no ash or
particulate matter spewed into the air surrounding a nuclear reactor.
A nuclear power plant does not produce a chemically polluted runoff that
pollutes water ways.
James ( Slide 9): Section 1: Opening Bataan Nuclear Power Plant shall be
approved in our law. Providing easy access from electricity for the
people.

Section 2: Bataan Nuclear Powerplant Shall needed to protect and secure

from radiation for the people

Section 3: Violation such Nuclear Powerplant that cause to explode

should be fined from this act of the law

Section 4: This law and parts of law will be implemented and appealed

Conclusion (Fred): The citizens of the country must be well informed

about the effects of reviving a nuclear power plant. I believe that the
restoration of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant must under strict
surveillance and have more studies regarding the provision of power for
the state. It is also beneficial that the citizens are conscious of the
benefits, the restrictions, and the benefits that nuclear power could
provide from our citizens, the economy, and the state itself.
With all things considered, awareness of the audience is the solution for
the people in order to decide whether the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is
deserving of the restoration and the risk of danger and fund.
