Combined with rotary table, rotary table drive device is to achieve the clockwise
and anticlockwise running and quick brake so that it can achieve the rotary bit, and deal
with the well accident and fishing function. The quick brake can avoid back off accident.
Rotary table drive device is made up of power motor and drive device. It adopts
module design with advantages of simple structure, small volume, easy disassembly,
transportation and maintenance as well as the good exchangeability.
Main structure: 600kw positive Ex. VF motor provides the power to spiral bevel
gear box through drum tooth coupling, then drive the rotary table through universal shaft.
The assorted rotary table model is ZP275. Spiral bevel gear box adopts forced
lubrication. The lubrication system is made up of electrical gear oil pump, oil tank, pipe,
etc. There is a ventilation type pneumatic tyre clutch LT500/250T on the output shaft of
spiral bevel gear box as the inertia brake of rotary table. All components except the
cardan shaft are installed on the motor beam on the substructure and integrally installed
and transported with the motor beam. Transmission schematic drawing of rotary table

3. Structure description
The rotary table drive device mainly consists of 600 kW traction motor, spiral bevel
gear box, universal shaft and lubrication system.
3.1 Traction motor

4.1 Installation
Main body of rotary driving mechanism consisted of main motor, speed reduction
gear box and coupling, has been installed on the motor beam of substructure already in
factory, and should be installed and transported with motor beam together. Please do not
disassemble it randomly. When reinstall the main motor and gear reducer after
disassembling, please make the well centre line as benchmark to correct the gear reducer,
and then based on the input shaft of reducer to align and install the main motor. The
coaxiality tolerance of motor shaft and gear reducer input shaft should not be more than
Φ0.1mm; otherwise the service life of the gear tooth coupling will be reduced greatly.
After installing the motor beam, install the rotary table cardan shaft, connect the
electrical cables for the main motor and oil pump motor, the signal cable of the electronic

oil pressure meter and driller’s control console, the air control line and main air line of
pneumatic tube clutch, and fill the oil tank.
Notice: connecting bolts for universal shaft must be coated with anti-rusting
oil (grease) before installation each time to prevent threads from rusting. The pre-
tension torque is 710N.m.
4.2 Commissioning
Even though this mechanism has already passed all commissioning and no-load
operation tests, it still should be tested about its functions at each installation (or
performed according to your company regulations), and the safety functions should be
tested at each shift. Start electric gear oil pump first. When the oil pressure is stable at
the range of 0.08-0.3Mpa, start master motor. Preset its rotation speed of main motor to
“0”, start the blower and master motor, and then increase the speed from 0r/min to
1200r/min slowly.
Engage and disengage the inertia brake clutch for four times, check the inertia
brake for its sensitivity and reliability.
Check during commissioning:
Check whether the running parameters of the electric system accord with
requirements and all protection functions are complete and valid.
Check whether all transmission devices have abnormal vibration, abnormal noise,
oil leakage and overheat etc.
5. Lubrication
The lubrication system is divided into two parts: grease lubrication system and
forced oil lubrication system.
Gear reducer adopts forced lubrication. Forced lubrication system is composed of
oil filter, electric gear oil pump, pipes, explosion-proof electronic oil pressure meter,
electronic oil pressure alarm and oil tank installed on the motor beam. The electronic oil
pressure alarm is fixed inside driller’s cabin. As per the international general oil, its

specification: ISO VG 220, synthetic gear oil, ambient temperature is above -40℃); ISO
VG 220 industrial gear oil, ambient temperature is -10℃ to +40℃). As per the Mobil,
the oil specification is Mobil SHC630. Replace the lubrication oil completely once every
other well completion, supplement oil according to the practical consumption daily.
Clean oil filter every two weeks.
The cardan shaft and the drum tooth coupling are greased once a week. As per the
international general recommendation, oil specification: ambient temperature –25℃
above, NLGI 1, compound lithium base grease; working temperature above -40℃,
NLGI2, compound lithium base grease. As per Mobil recommendation, oil specification:
ambient temperature –25℃ above, Mobilith SHC 220; working temperature above -
40℃, Mobilux EP 2.
Grease lubrication is adopted for motor bearing. It required lubrication every three
years during normal operation. After three years the motor must be disassembled for
cleaning, inspection and greasing. The grease must meet the requirements described in
the motor operation manual.
6. Maintenance
For the long-term fault-free work of the RT drive device, maintain it in time.
6.1 Route maintenance before operation
Before the running of the RT drive device, remove exceptions if any. Before the RT
drive device runs, check the following items:
1) All connection must firm and reliable without looseness.
2) All shafts shall rotate flexibly without blockage.
3) Add lubrication grease to all grease lubricating points (except motor)
periodically; check lubrication grease nipples and passages for smoothness. Grease once
a week.
4) The temperature rise of every bearing cannot be more than 40℃, its maximum
temperature cannot be more than 80℃, and every bearing runs normally without any

abnormal noise.
5) Pneumatic inertia brake runs flexibly and reliably.
6) The electronic oil pressure alarm system runs normally.
7) The protection functions of the main motor are normal.
8) The main motors which are in idle for long time or in wet environment for more
than 1 hour should be checked for insulation before operation, dry it if necessary. If
insulation resistance of stator winding and casing is lower than 0.5MΩ, it must be dried.
6.2 Route maintenance in operation
When the RT drive device works, check following items:
1) Fill lubricating grease periodically as per lubrication and maintenance
regulations.
2) Check and find out reasons if the temperature rise of the bearing is more than
40℃ or its temperature is more than 80℃. Replace the lubrication grease for bearing.
3) Check the running of rotating parts for abnormal phenomena such as abnormal
vibration and abnormal sound etc.
4) Check the air pipeline for air leakage.
5) Check the fastener for looseness.
6.3 Maintenance of air tube clutch
The precise adjustment of the centering installation for the clutch assembly has
been carried out before the product is delivered.
After a period of running, the brake hub and friction plate are worn continuously,
and the brake moment capacity reduces continuously. When the thickness of the friction
plate is reduced to 2/3 of the original thickness, it must be replaced. The brake hub must
be replaced when its wear extent in the diameter direction is more than 4-6mm (the
difference compared with its original diameter).
When any one of brake mounting flange and the spiral bevel gearbox is
disassembled, it must be aligned after assembly, and the axiality allowance cannot be
more than Φ1mm.

Note: no grease and liquid etc are allowed to enter the friction surface of the
clutch, as the grease or the liquid will decrease the friction coefficient and the
brake torque, the friction surface must be cleaned clearly with a solvent.
6.4 Maintenance for other parts
Except process routine maintenance as 6.1 & 6.2, please refer to the user manual for
other maintenance and regulation.

1. Transportation
After disassembly, the cardan shaft is separately packed and transported. And other
componens will be transported with motor beam together.
2. Storage
During storage, clean the surfaces of the product, coat the surfaces which are not
painted with anti-rusting oil, and cover the whole RT drive device with waterproof
oilcloth or plastic film.
It should be stored in a dry room with adequate ventilation and no corrosive gas.
For long-term storage, discharge the lubricating oil in the oil tank completely.
Check one time per three months.
