Mr Siddharth Kain - RBI Gr B 2019 O cer
Read the success story of Mr Siddharth Kain who cleared the RBI Grade B 2019 examination in
his very first attempt at an age of only 22 years.
I had made up my mind in the third year (pre-final year) of engineering that I would be appearing
for RBI Grade B examination after exploring various career options.
I started my preparation with the static portion, although it does not have a high weightage in the
examination in terms of marks, still, I believe that a good command of the concepts of static part,
especially Economics and Social Issues (ESI) helps a lot in eliminating the options in the
questions of the actual exam.
For Finance and Management (FM) part, I would really like to thank EduTap as the material
provided was easy to comprehend, understand and learn. Anchit sir explained the concepts of FM
in a very easy language. Coming from a non-finance/commerce background, the course made it
easy for me to learn the concepts of FM. Thanks to EduTap for this!
I used to read the newspaper daily, not from the perspective of memorizing anything but with the
aim of getting an overall idea as to how the government works, what is the mandate of RBI,
which schemes come under which Ministry and so on.

There are people who spend 2-3 hours on reading the newspaper daily, I would not recommend
that. Take a print out of the syllabus, see the topics, understand what kind of questions are asked
in the examination from various topics by having a look at the previous years papers, then try
selective reading of the newspaper. You cannot read stuff blindly, this will only lead to
exhaustion.
I shifted to reading The Business Standard around 6 months before the examination.
I assumed that the RBI notification would be out in July 2019, although the notification came out
a bit late in October 2019, my assumption regarding the notification date helped in getting in
preparation mode a bit early.
For Phase 1 current affairs preparation, I referred EduTap's monthly magazine along with
Affairscloud and GkToday. I had an aim of scoring at least 60-65 marks out of 80 in the GA
section of Phase 1. I got 64.5 in the actual examination.
For Phase 2 current affairs, from the very beginning, I relied on EduTap modules, these modules
are well organized, there is a clear demarcation between GA, ESI and Finance in EduTap's
modules. My way of studying matched with EduTap.
For Government Schemes and Reports, I made my notes from the material provided by EduTap.
The material provided was in-depth like what are the important parameters of the various
schemes, reports, they also provided a background of the topic which was in news. I did not refer
PIB, all important things were covered by EduTap.
For interview preparation of current affairs, I read RBI speeches, I also read the Financial
Stability Report of RBI, RBI notifications and FAQs of RBI. I continued my reading of the
newspaper.
With exam like Grade B, English for Phase 1 and Descriptive English for phase 2 should not be
ignored. I gave 10-15 mock tests before the actual Phase 1 examination and devoted greater time
on GA and less on English. I dont recommend doing this since English is highly scoring in Phase
1.

I used to read the editorial part of the newspaper, went through all the videos of EduTap on essay
writing, precis writing, RC, etc, and was aware of the basic structure. I typed 6-7 essays on
important topics also.
If you think you have 6-8 months with you, you should start with the static portion - FM and ESI.
After that, you should start preparing for Phase 1 and 2 simultaneously. Phase 2 cannot be
covered in 15-20 days which is generally the gap between Phase 1 and 2 examinations.
Stay motivated, if you are clear that this is what I want to do, you are good to go.
Don't let the fear overcome you, consider RBI Gr B as just another exam. Reward yourself when
you do good. I used to reward myself with an episode of Big Bang Theory when I completed one
chapter.
