I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to:

b. Distinguish and understand the functions of communication
c. Compose and explain proper functions of communication

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

B. ACTIVITY (FOUR PICS AND ONE WORD!)


The teacher will post four pictures and the students will identify it
using the letters as their clue. The student who will get the right
answer will an incentive from the teacher.

C. ANALYSIS (FOCUS ON COMMUNICATION)
The teacher will instruct the students to pair with their friend of
seat mate, and interview the using the questions provided by the
teacher. Each student will take turns in interviewing. The teacher will
call random students to share their answers to the class.

Questions:
1. What can you say about being able to communicate to
other people?
2. Why do you think people communicate with each other?
3. How can you say that communication is essential in our
life?

D. ABSTRACTION
(The teacher will have a discussion about the functions of
communication)

FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION

 INFORMATIVE FUNCTION We want to inform other people, people


of what we know – facts, information, and knowledge. In school, most
of our speaking activities are directed to get and give information, to
develop or improve our knowledge and skills, and to imbibe good
values.

 INSTRUCTIVE FUNCTION Many times, older people, people who


hold important information, and those in the higher ranks
communicative to instruct people on what to do, when and where to do
them, and why and how to do them.

 PERSUASIVE FUNCTION You may find yourself wanting to influence


the opinion of others to believe and accept your stand or claim on an
issue or problem; so you think of strategies on how to persuade them
to change their perspective of opinion, and to decide accordingly.

 MOTIVATIONAL FUNCTION We communicate and direct people to


act and reach their objectives or goals in life. In the process, we use
positive language to make them realize that their actions lead them
to something beneficial for their being.

 AESTHETIC FUNCTION We use communication for pleasure


and enjoyment

 THERAPEUTIC FUNCTION OR EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION


Communication is curative and serves to maintain good health.

 REGULATION/CONTROL People use communication to maintain


control over other people’s attitudes and behavior. Your parents use it
to guide, inspire, or reprimand you when you seem to lose control over
your schedule, studies, and relationships, among others.
 SOCIAL INTERACTIONS Communication helps us start, maintain
regulate. We usually establish a positive climate at home, in
school, and in the workplace by greeting the people around us and
by exchanging pleasantries with them.

E. APPLICATION
The teacher will divide the students into four and give different
tasks based on the lesson and will be graded based on the criteria
below:

Aesthetic Function and Therapeutic Function.

GROUP 4: (SYMBOLISM)
 Create symbols which will describe or
interpret the use of Regulation/Control and
Social Interactions and explain in class how
you came up with that symbol.
