Evolution of Bollywood
The first Indian silent movie was released in 1913 and after which most of the Indian movies
had their roots in Indian scriptures such as Ramayana and Mahabharata for few years. There
was another Zoroastrian community who Indianized the Shakespeare’s story lines.
In the year 1920 there was an influence of Hollywood style of making movies and post that
between 1920-1930 the average number of movies made per year grew from 4.5 to 80 per year
because the popularity of the movies grew among the audience and thus the money started
flowing in which was again reinvested.
People started perceiving movie as an escape from the reality and they wanted colourful
backgrounds, exciting music and complex storylines. Around 1950’s people started
appreciating the movies that were near to reality which showed the struggle of the common
man and these films started gaining popularity even the Russia and China while USA reviewers
called these movies poor soap opera.
