‘An’ is used with words beginning vowels e.g. an egg, an apple, an umbrella an
insect an eye.
‘The’ is used to refer to a particular person or thing. It is also used when there
is only one of that particular thing. Examples: the sun, the moon, the earth, the
place etc.
