Test I. Explain the meaning of the following terms:


a. Forensic
- Forensic refers to the application of scientific knowledge to legal problems, especially the
scientific analysis of physical evidence.
b. Criminal Law
- A system of laws concerned with punishment of individuals who commit crimes. Thus,
where in a civil case two individuals dispute their rights, a criminal prosecution involves
the government deciding whether to punish an individual for either an act or an omission.
c. Criminologist
- These are the people working and researching the study of crime and society's response to
crime.
d. Criminology
- It is the theoretical advanced field of study that deals with the study of crime as a social
phenomenon.
e. Therapeutic Community
- A therapeutic community treatment model is one in which participants are taught to work
with one another and promotes self-change by becoming positive role models for one
another.
f. Felony
- A felony is typically defined as a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment of one year
or more.
g. Offense
- An offense may consist of a felony or a misdemeanor. The term is used to indicate a
violation of public rights as opposed to private ones.
h. Crime
- It is the intentional commission of an act usually deemed socially harmful or dangerous
and specifically defined, prohibited, and punishable under criminal law.
i. Lateral Entry
- It is like entry from side so basically whose are admission take in 2nd year not start from
1st year.
j. Jurisprudence
- It is the theoretical study of law.

a. Give at least Three (3) Theories of Crimes and explain each briefly
- Conflict Theory seeks to explain political and economic events in terms of an ongoing
struggle over finite resources.
- Labeling theory argues that people become deviant as a result of people forcing that
identity upon them and then adopting the identity.
- Structural functionalism argues that deviant behavior plays an active, constructive role in
society by ultimately helping cohere different populations within a society.
b. What are the different Major Areas of Criminology? Explain each briefly.
- Criminal Sociology is an area that deals with the introduction on Criminal behavior in the
Philippine society
- Criminal Law and Jurisprudence focuses mainly on the Criminal Laws and the different
Laws that exist in the Philippines
- Law Enforcement Administration this area deals with how the policing function is
organized at the national or societal level or more specifically to how individual police
agencies and units are organized and managed.
- Crime Detection, Investigation this focuses on how crimes are being investigated and
detected.
- Forensics is an area that mainly focuses on more scientific methods, heavily used in
Crime Laboratories.
c. What are the different branches of Criminal Law? Explain each briefly.
- Felony is punishable by law and can lead to imprisonment of 1yr or more
- Misdemeanor is a minor wrongdoing or a lesser criminal act and punished less severely.
- Inchoate offense is a type of crime completed by taking a punishable step towards the
commission of another crime.
- Strict liability exists when a defendant us liable for committing an action sample of these
are rape and possession crimes.
Test III. Distinctions.
a. Criminalistics and Criminology
- Criminalistics is the study of evidence to investigate crimes, and criminology is the
examination of crime within society.
b. Correction and Jail
- Jail is a County facility, whose head Administrator is the elected county sheriff, and holds
inmates that are sentenced for misdemeanor crimes, inmates awaiting trial for
misdemeanor and felony crimes, inmates/convicts that are serving sentences for
probation or intense probation violations, and individuals that are delinquent in child
support payments. While Correctional Facility hold those individuals who have been
convicted for federal felony crimes.
c. Forensic Photography and Commercial Photography
- Forensic Photography is the art of producing an accurate reproduction of a crime scene or
an accident scene using photography for the benefit of a court or to aid in an
investigation. While Commercial photography is photography that is used to sell or
promote a product or service.
d. Dactyloscopy and Polygraphy
- Dactyloscopy relies on the analysis and classification of patterns observed in individual
prints while Polygraphy, most commonly referred to as a lie detector, is a machine that is
used by law enforcement to test the physiological responses of individuals to certain
questions.
e. Forensic Science and Forensic Ballistics
- Forensic science is the application of the methods of the natural and physical sciences to
matters of criminal and civil law while Forensic Ballistics is the examination of evidence
from firearms that may have been used in a crime.

a. Why do you consider criminology as part of the social science study?
- Because it emphasizes systematic data collection.
b. How does the study of criminology contribute to the Law Enforcement work?
- It aids in the way of deep investigating of a crime and it compliments legal study.
c. What is the importance of Forensic Science in the Field of Criminology Investigation?
- It can assist investigator to develop a deep sense on how the crime was committed.
d. Explain the brief history of Criminology.
- Criminology truly began in Europe between the late 1700’s and the early 1800’s.
Classical school of criminology founders were theorists on crime and punishment
development.
e. How do you describe a person to be a criminal?
- By basing it on their movements and how they act upon things and within the society.
