SCHOOL FIRE DRILL PROCEDURE
(HI) (I) (MI) (NI)
Alarm Operation
1. When a fire is detected, the nearby office
raises the alert by activating the nearest fire
alarm call point.
Calling the Fire Brigade
2. Report the fire to the Fire Department
instantly. For telephone availability, this duty
may be assigned to the school secretary.
Evacuation and Assembly
3. When the fire alarm sounds, students must be
directed to exit the building in a single file and in
a calm, orderly manner.
4. The person in charge of each class must
indicate the appropriate exit route, and everyone
must be directed to pre-identified evacuation
areas.
5. Special measures must be taken to guarantee
that students with physical or mental
impairments are helped during evacuation.
6. To avoid panic, no running is allowed.
7. Everyone on a staircase must descend in a
single line. Overtaking classes or persons must
be prohibited.
8. Lifts are not permitted.
9. Anyone who is not in class when the fire
alarm sounds must proceed to the assembly
point immediately.
10. A roll call or body count must be performed
at the assembly point to ensure that no one
remains in the building.
11. Each instructor must report whether or not
all students are present and accounted for.
12. No one should be permitted to re-enter the

SCHOOL EARTHQUAKE DRILL PROCEDURE
(HI) (I) (MI) (NI)
Alarm Operation
1. A person in control activates a pre-
programmed signal, such as a siren or bell, to
notify earthquake shaking.
Response
2. Move away from windows, glass, and
unsecured furniture while the signal is active.
3. Everyone should “duck, cover, and hold”
underneath tables, desks, or chairs until the
“shaking signal” ends.
4. Someone should hold the door open to keep
the people inside from getting trapped.
5. If you're outside, stay clear of buildings,
electricity wires, trees, light poles, and other
potential hazards by crouching to your knees
and covering your head and neck.
Evacuation and Assembly
6. Once the shaking stops, students should be
directed to exit the building in single line and in a
calm, orderly way.
7. The person in charge of each class must
identify the pre-determined route to be taken,
and all students must be guided to pre-identified
evacuation areas.
8. Special measures must be taken to guarantee
that students with physical or mental
impairments are helped during evacuation.
9. To avoid panic, no running is allowed.
10. Everyone on a staircase must descend in a
single line. Overtaking classes or persons must
be prohibited.
11. Lifts are not permitted.
12. Keep an eye out for potential falling items.
13. Anyone who was not in class when the
"shaking" signal went off must look around for
potentially hazardous things. Then immediately
head to the evacuation site.
14. A roll call or body count must be performed
at the assembly point to ensure that no one
remains in the building.
15. Each instructor must report whether or not
all students are present and accounted for.
