Lesson 1.2A - Prob - Solving - ULM & UAM

1. The lesson describes uniform linear motion and uniformly accelerated motion, explaining that uniform linear motion involves constant velocity while accelerated motion involves changing velocity. 2. Key quantities in describing motion - position, displacement, velocity, acceleration, and time - are reviewed. Acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity. 3. Examples of changing speed and direction are provided to illustrate accelerated motion, and the equations for calculating average speed and average velocity in accelerated motion are presented.

Lesson 1.2A: How is Motion Described (Problem Solving on

Uniform Linear and Uniformly Accelerated Motion
Chapter 1: Force and Motion
Mrs. Eden G. Tolentino
LESSON OBJECTIVE/S
At the end of the session, you are expected to:

1. describe the motion of an object in terms of distance or displacement,

speed or velocity, and acceleration;

2. solve problems concerning motion such as distance, displacement

average speed, average velocity and acceleration
Recall..
 When describing motion, there are five main quantities that concern us:
Quantities & their formulas & Units
1. Position (m)
2. Displacement/distance (m)
3. Velocity/Speed (m/s)
4. Acceleration (m/s2)
5. Time (s)
Deepening our understanding on acceleration…

Would you believe that there

is ONLY ONE THAT CAN DO
ALL OF THOSE 3?
An accelerator can…
What do you 1. Change the speed of the car
think does an 2. Change the direction of the car
accelerator do? 3. Change the velocity of the car

Where do you think If you want to Change speed – gas pedal, brake pedal = accelerators
does the word If you want to change the direction - steering wheel = accelerator
accelerator come
from?
Velocity is the rate of change of speed and
direction. Hence, a change in speed and/or
ACCELERATE or direction is a change in velocity!
ACCELERATION
What does a change in velocity refer to?
Now You Know..
Imagine you are the one riding a
car…

How can you show the ff:

1. Changing speed but
Constant direction?
2. Changing direction but
constant speed?
3. Speed and direction are
changing?
Uniform Linear Motion & Accelerated Motion
Uniform Linear Motion and Accelerated Motion

ULM & UAM Defined….
1.Uniform Linear Motion (ULM) is a type of motion where the object is moving at a
constant speed and a constant direction; hence constant velocity.

2. Acceleration is the rate of change in velocity- how fast velocity changes!

3. Acceleration takes place when speed changes, direction changes or both are
changing.

4. Uniform Accelerated Motion (UAM) is a type of motion where object is changing

its velocity every second at a constant rate.
Let’s RECALL and make it clearer….
What did we learn so far? (Summary)
Uniform Linear Motion (ULM) Uniform Accelerated Motion (UAM)
is a type of motion where object is changing
a type of motion where object moves at a
its velocity every second at a constant rate.
constant velocity – constant speed AND
Every second, VELOCITY KEEPS ON CHANGING
constant direction; hence, covers equal
at the same amount
distance every second
Uniform Accelerated Motion (UAM)
