Research Paper Final 2

This document summarizes a research paper about the negative impacts of tobacco smoking. It discusses how tobacco smoking affects individual health and is a major global public health issue. Over 8 million people die each year from tobacco use. Cigarette smoking is the most common form of tobacco use and is harmful, as are other products like waterpipes, smokeless tobacco, cigars, and bidis. The majority of tobacco users live in low- and middle-income countries. Tobacco use also contributes to economic and health issues. The paper reviews literature on the topic and outlines the research methodology, including use of a survey to collect data from students on their experiences with tobacco.

Chapter 1

The Problem

Introduction

The said study aims to know how many individuals have had tobacco smoking and its
statistics every year, this also includes every individuals own reasoning and if this study
might lessen tobacco smoking. It will be glad that this upbringing study is very alarming
not only to our society but also to world. We would also want to know the others
individuals that had been affected by the secondhand smoke of the tobacco, the smoke
will definitely affect the mental health of a person that has asthma.

According to World Health Organizations (WHO), reports 22% of the world’s

population aged 15 years are smokers and approximately six million people die from
tobacco use or exposure to tobacco smoke. Unfortunately, the prevelance of smoking
between college students is higher than in the general population.

As indicated by Kessler (1995), indicated that the impact of cigarette smoking and
other tobacco use on chronic diseases, which accounts for 75% of American spending on
health care is well documented and undeniable.

As stated by Doll et al (2004), stated that most young smokers become adult smokers.
One-half of adult smokers die prematurely from tobacco related disease. Despite
thousands of media stories on the dangers of tobacco use, generation after generation
continues to suffer the devastating consequences.

Framework of the Study

To illumine the study undertaken, theories are discussed and the conceptual
framework is presented.

According to Lawrence et al, (1984) clearly demostrated a decrease in random flap

survival in rats subjected intermittenly to tobacco smoke for ten (10) hours per day
during the first five (5) post operative days. These studies provide a basis for
admonitions against smoking in the post operative period for patients undergoing flap
surgery.

According to Schneider et al, (1986) their effectiveness in persuading individuals to stop

smoking is not well understood. Health behaviors aimed at preventing illness, such as
avoiding tobacco products and quitting smoking, may be motivated more by
considerations of the benefits of not smoking, rather than the cost of smoking.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to identify if the negative impacts that tobacco smoking cause to a
certain individuals and to somehow raise our voice to entice audiences about this
upbringing and very relevant study. Also seeks to find the answer if the following
questions:

1. How many people are immersed to tobacco per year

2. What are the factors that inhaling this smoke from tobacco affects our health
3. What are the possible diseases in engaging tobacco smoking
4. How many people who realized that tobacco smoking can cut their count of
lifetime and changed them

Significance of the Study

This research determines why an individual is inclined in tobacco smoking and to

raise awareness that tobacco smoking has a great negative impact to our health.

Objectives

 To be able to help the younger generations about tobacco smoking

 To be able to raise awareness
 To be able to advocate the study and finish it
 To be able to determine the catalyst of tobacco smoking

Delimitation of the Study

This study wants to know and seek the interest of adolescents and other
individuals who are not or are addicted to tobacco smoking and to assess the figures of
how many people smoke tobacco every year and aims to classify how many causes of
death and illness due to tobacco smoking propensity are secondhand or not as long as
tobacco cigarrete smoke is inhaled.
Definitions of Terms

The following terms or word were being used in the study and were defined
accordingly:

Experience The process through which conscious organism perceive the world around
them. Experiences can be accompanied by active awareness on the part of the person
having the experience, although they need not be.

Problem Generally considered to be a task, a situation, or a person which is difficult to

deal with or control due to complexity and in transparency. In every language, a
problem is a question proposed for solution, a matter stated for examination or proof.

Responsibility Means you do the things you are supposed to do and accept the results
of your actions. A responsibility: something you are expected to do. Being responsible:
doing the things you are supposed to do.

Adolescents The period following the onset of puberty during which a young person
develops from a child into an adult.

Addicted Physically and mentally dependent on a particular substance, and unable to

stop taking it without incurring adverse effects.

Chapter 2
Review of Related Literature

This chapter illustrates review of related literature and sources gathered by the
researchers in this study to expound more on this chosen topic. This chapter serves as
the basis of the study, the literature is coming from different books, websites, and
articles that are considered and related to the study.

The tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever
faced, killing more than 8 million people a year around the world. More than seven (7)
million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while around 1.2 million are
the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.

All forms of tobacco are harmful, and there is no safe level of exposure to tobacco.
Cigarettes smoking is the most common form of tobacco use worldwide. Other tobacco
products include waterpipe tobacco, various smokeless tobacco products, cigars, cigarillos,
roll-your-own tobacco, pipe tobacco, bidis and kreteks.

Waterpipe tobacco use is damaging to health in similar ways to cigarette tobacco use.
However, the health dangers of waterpipe tobacco use are often little understood by
users.

Smokeless tobacco use is highly addictive and damaging to health. Smokeless tobacco
contains many cancer-causing toxins and its use increases the risk of cancer of the head,
neck, throat, oesophagus and oral cavity as well as various dental diseases.

Over 80% of the 1.3 billion tobacco users worldwide live in low- and middle- income
countries, where the burden of tobacco-related illness and death is heaviest. Tobacco use
contributes to poverty by diverting household spending from basic needs such as foods
and shelter to tobacco.

The economic costs of tobacco use are substantial and include significant health care
costs for treating the diseases caused by tobacco use as well as the lost human capital
that results from tobacco attributable, morbidity and mortality.

In some countries children from poor households are employed in tobacco farming to b
oost family income. Tobacco growing farmers are also exposed to a number of health
risks, including the “green tobacco sickness”.

Chapter 3
Research Methodology

The chapter shows the methodology of the study and contains detailed discussion on
the following parts; the research design, research instrument, research site, data gathering
procedure, treatment of the data.

Research Design

The study used qualitative design type of research. According to AdihBhat (2012),
Research design is defined as a framework of methods and techniques chosen by
researcher to combine various components of research in a reasonably logical manner so
that the research problem is efficiently handled. It provides insight “how” the research
has been conducted using a particular methodology. Every researcher had a list of
research question which are being assessed, this can be done with research design.

Research Instrument

A survey questionnaire was used in this study for data gathering. A constructed survey
questionnaire was divided into two parts. The first part is demographic profile of the
respondents and the second part is where the problem they usually encountered. This
survey questionnaire was distributed to the students in VNHS, Valencia City Bukidnon.

Research Site

A qualitative study of a purposive sampling of 5 males in Valencia National

Highschool, Valencia City, Bukidnon was conducted in October 2021. The survey
compromised of ten (10) questions. The respondents were approached and ask by the
researcher to take survey via social media platform.

Data Gathering Procedure

By conducting survey using the survey questionnaire, those data gathered are to be used
as a ratings from the respondents. Once the survey were collected we expressed our
gratitude towards them for taking the time to filling out.
Treatment of the Data

Responses to the survey questionnaire by the students of Valencia National Highschool.

Respondents were statistically analyzed with the data instrument of the study. Descriptive
statistic such as frequency count, mean and rank are considered.
