Assignment 3
REMANES
A. The purpose of the study was to determine whether track athletes trained to use
mental imagery performed superior to athletes who did not receive the mental imagery
training. We expected those athletes receiving the training would perform significantly
better than the untrained athletes.
Answer: From the objective point of view, this research is an example of a CASUAL research wherein
there is a cause and effect relationship. Having an expectation on performing significantly with the
trained athletes shows the relationship. At the same time this research is a LONGITUDINAL type of
research. Having a training takes time. You cannot just have a result in a single set up. This may take
weeks, months or even years.
With the relationship, the independent variable will be the training of the athletes while the dependent
is if the athletes perform significantly. Their performance would always depend on how they train
themselves.
The alternative hypothesis will be “there is a relationship of the training and the performance of the
athletes”. While the null hypothesis will be “There is no relationship between the two”.
B. The study examined the effects of an acute bout of resistance training on participants’
mood and cognitive functioning at 1, 6 and 12 hours post exercise. It was expected
that the positive effects on mood and cognitive function would decline over time.
Answer: This research is an example of a CASUAL RESEARCH wherein it is clearly stated that
there is a cause and effect relationship of two variables. And since it talks about training and
training exercise doesn’t end in a day before we see its effects, this research is an example of
LONGITUDINAL RESEARCH.
The independent variable is the number of hours while the dependent variable is the positive
effect on mood and cognitive function would decline over time.
The alternative hypothesis will be ‘the positive effects on mood and cognitive function
would decline over time”. And the null hypothesis will be “the positive effects on mood
and cognitive function would not decline over time”.
C. Participants at the 2009 Chicago Marathon were polled to determine their satisfaction with
the course. The race officials hoped for positive reactions on the part of the runners.
Answer: This is an example of a descriptive research because of the wide survey and the
audience are polled with the satisfactory of the course. This research is also a quantitative and
cross-sectional research. All tests, measures and variables are being administered to participants
on one occurrence. The independent variable will be the number of students who are satisfied
with the course and those who are not While the dependent variable is the Satisfactory level or
if how many are really satisfied and how many are not. The Alternative hypothesis will be there
is “the participants of the 2009 Chicago marathon or most of them are satisfied with the course”
while the null hypothesis is “the participants of the 2009 Chicago marathon or most of them are
not satisfied with the course”.
