Choice Of Course Essay for Chevening Scholarship

I have selected MSc courses in advanced engineering management: construction

management, international construction management and engineering and information

management for design, construction and engineering offered by the University of Birmingham,

University of Leeds and University of Reading respectively. My desire to enroll in these

institutions is because of their international reputation in teaching, research, networking &

exposure to the industry. The three universities have set high quality in education, and research

methods, which I do believe will provide me an excellent opportunity to advance my civil

engineering career and especially in construction & project management.

I have a four-year experience as a planning engineer with extensive knowledge in project

planning and management in the construction industry with a project management certification

course (PMI standards).Currently, technology is progressing, and BIM is the future for

Construction management. My Final year project in University was on Building information

modeling. These factors influenced my decision to choose information management for design,

construction, and engineering course at the University of Reading. I believe if awarded a chance,

it will positively help in developing my career in this field.

I graduated with a GPA of 3.6/4.0 from the NED University of Engineering and

Technology in my civil engineering degree which is the primary requirement for taking a masters

course in civil engineering or related field. I, therefore, believe that possess skills and capability

required to complete the three course if awarded the scholarship. I have selected the three

courses because they will help me expand my construction & project management knowledge,

and provide me with practical training skills at an advanced level, which is critical in excelling as

a professional engineer. The three courses offer me an opportunity to advance my scientific

research, which is the backbone of every career nowadays. With already the necessary skills in a

civil Construction Management career. I believe that the knowledge that I acquire through the

Chevening program will benefit me mostly to expand my knowledge, which I am seeking to

apply it in my country which is among the fastest developing in the civil engineering field.
