Breathing is an amazing body activity and is a common factor in Physical, mental, and
emotional activity and health. Breathing is an essential part of what we think of as the
mind/body/spirit connection. It is not an exaggeration to say that breath is the significant link
that makes the mind/body/spirit connection real. We use breath to sustain and energize our
life, to calm our emotions, and to settle our minds.
At the end of 60 minutes, the students are expected to achieve of the following:

1. Students will describe the parts of the respiratory system.
2. Students will be able to describe the functions of each part of the respiratory system.
B. Meaning Making

overall function of the other organ systems of the body.
C. Transfer
4. Use a model to demonstrate inhalation and exhalation

3. Abstraction
(Flash on the LCD projector A model of the “The different parts of respiratory system are
respiratory and play the video.) Nasal Cavity, Pharynx, Larynx, Trachea,
Bronchi, Bronchioles, Alveoli and Lungs.”
Pharynx
It lies behind mouth, nose and larynx.
It is connected to nasal cavity through
the internal opening of nares and to the
mouth.
Larynx
Also called sound box or voice box.
It is situated in the anterior neck i.e. in front of
esophagus.
Trachea
The tube connecting the throat to the
bronchi.
Bronchi
Alveoli
Tiny sacs (air sacs) delineated by a
single-layer membrane with blood
capillaries at the other end.
The inner surface of the lungs where
the exchange of gases takes place is
very large, due to the structure of the
air sacs of the alveoli.
Lungs
A pair of organs found in all
vertebrates.
The structure of the lungs includes the
bronchial tree – air tubes branching off
from the bronchi into smaller and
smaller air tubes, each one ending in a
pulmonary alveolus.
The right lung has three lobes; (the
right superior, right middle and the right
inferior lobe). The left lung has two
lobes, (the left superior and the left
interior lobe).
“Who can define the function of the respiratory “Respiratory system is responsible for getting
system? And the functions of all parts? “ oxygen from the atmosphere and bringing it to
our lungs.
Nose where air enters and filtered.
Pharynx or throat serves as pathway for air
and food. Larynx leads air into the appropriate
channel and functions mainly in speech.
Trachea or windpipes it normalize the function
of epiglottis and permitting food passage to the
esophagus. Bronchi two branching tubes that
connect trachea to the lungs. Lastly the lungs,

IV. Generalization
Now class let’s remember the different parts of the Respiratory System are Nasal Cavity,
Pharynx, Larynx, Trachea, Bronchi, Bronchioles, Alveoli and Lungs. Can you again tell me the
different parts of the respiratory system?
V. Valuing:
How will you apply the importance of taking care of your lungs? Lungs have a very important
job. All cells in your body need oxygen in order to survive and function properly. The lungs bring
in oxygen rich air and remove waste gases, such as carbon dioxide, out of the body.
VI. Evaluation
1. The respiratory system is made up of the trachea, the lungs, and the: - Diaphragm
2. When you breathe in air, you bring oxygen into your lungs and what you blow out? -
Carbon dioxide
3. What is the name of the tiny air sacs in your lungs? - Alveoli
