Full Title of Your Paper

The introduction of the paper begins here. Each paragraph is indented using the “Tab” key. The

entire paper is double spaced. A variety of fonts are permitted in APA Style papers, including: 12- point

Times New Roman, 11-point Calibri, Arial, and Georgia as well as 10-point Lucida Sans Unicode and

Computer Modern. Writers are expected to use the same font throughout the paper (American

Psychological Association [APA], n.d., Font section). In addition, headings may be used to organize your

paper. As shown in the next section, this sample paper uses two levels of headings, for heading level 1:

“In-Text Citations”, and for heading level 2: “Paraphrased In Your Words”, and “Quoted Word for

Word”. Learn more in the “Headings” link located in the title page.

In-Text Citations

APA Style uses the author-date citation system, in which a brief note is included everytime

writers paraphrase, or quote from another source. In-text citations can be narrative (the author and

date are part of a sentence) OR parenthetical (the author and date are given in parentheses at the end

of a sentence). For example:

Paraphrased In Your Words

 Dyer (2013) found that bees could recognize human faces. OR

 Bees can recognize human faces (Dyer, 2013).

Quoted Word for Word

 According to Dyer (2013) “bees can recognize a target human face” (p. 609). OR

 The study concluded, “bees can recognize a target human face” (Dyer, 2013, p. 609).

Please remember, for every in-text citation in your paper, there must be a corresponding entry

in your reference list. For example, the “Dyer” and “APA” in- text citations in this sample paper must

match with a corresponding reference list entry and vice-versa. For more information refer to the “In-

Text Citations” and “References” links in the title page.
