Mixture Related Problems
in Mathematics 8
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. translate verbal phrases to mathematical equations;
b. solve mixture-related problems involving systems of linear equations using
the substitution of elimination method;
c. generalize conclusion.
III.PROCEDURE
B. Lesson Proper
C. Generalization
IV. EVALUATION
Ml of % Amount
solution
A X 2%=0.02 0.02x
B Y 7%=0.07 0.07y
Total 100 5%=0.05 100(0.05)
b. x + y=100 Eq. 1
0.02 x+ 0.07 y=100(0.05)
0.02 x+ 0.07 y=5 Eq. 2
c. Solving by elimination.
Multiply the equation by 100 to remove
the decimal.
( 0.02 x+ 0.07 y=5 ) 100
2 x+5 y =500
Multiply 2 in equation1,
2(x + y=100)2 x +2 y=200
2 x+7 y =500 2 x +7 y=500
−5 y=−300
y=60 ml
Solving for x,
x + y=100
x +60=100
x=100−60
x=40 ml
d. Check:
Eq. 1
x + y=100
60+ 40=100
100=100True
Eq. 2
2 x+7 y =500
2 ( 40 ) +7 ( 60 ) =500
80+ 420=500
500=500True
V. ASSIGNMENT
1. Aling Mely who owns a coffee store in Divisoria Market wishes to mix first-class
Batangas coffee that sells Php 200 per kilogram with 25 kg of imported coffee form Sri
Lanka that sells Php 150 per kilogram. How many kilograms of Batangas coffee must be
mixed with the Sri Lanka coffee to obtain a mixture worth Php175 per kilogram? How
much of the mixture will be produced?
