Properties of Rectangle
Properties of Rectangle
in Mathematics 9
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define rectangle;
b. list and illustrate the properties of a rectangle; and
c. use the properties to find measures of angles, sides, and other quantities involving
rectangle.

E P
So, there are 7 properties of a rectangle.
The five properties are the same as the
properties of a parallelogram.
Again, what is the first property?
Opposite sides are parallel.
And what are the opposite sides that are
parallel in the rectangle HOPE?
HE||OP and HO||EP.
That is right. How about the second
property? Opposite sides are congruent.
E P
m EHO+m HOP=180°
m HOP+m OPE=180°
m OPE+m PEH=180°
m PEH+m EHO=180°
Very good. Next property is that diagonals
bisect each other. And what are the diagonals
of the rectangle HOPE?
H O
E P
OE and HP.
And again, what do we mean by bisect?
Bisect means dividing the diagonals into two
equal parts.
